I agree - my BFG 6800 text is sharp and clear (no difference from my 9800pro) using DVI out, but fuzzy on the analog out. BFG has offered an exchange, but I'm only using DVI for now so I'm not sure I will do it.

I would suggest that even an RMA'ed card will not match the output of your old 9800Pro. Chances are you'll get the exact same 2D output that you're currently getting. It's not worth the hassle.

I've never seen an nVidia card with good 2D output over analogue at 1280x1024 and higher. Some are even terrible at 1024x768.

I would believe that, except that I have used my Ti4200 for many years with no such image quality problems. I honestly think they could build a 6800 that met the same 2D image quality standards as my Ti4200 did (does, I guess, since I still have it).

Where do you find those settings? Cant seem to find em.

Just wanted to add my $.02 on this...

I just got the $199 Black Friday deal from CompUSA as well. The PNY Verto 6800 does an awesome job with games, but I was shocked by how fuzzy text suddenly looked on my LCD monitor. Very glad to come across this thread and find out I'm not nuts (about this, anyway :).

After much screwing around with settings and finally trying a second LCD monitor, I decided to try a DVI cable (my primary monitor doesn't support DVI, but this newer one does). HUGE difference! I wouldn't say text is razor-sharp now, but it's definitely better.

FWIW, I was also wondering if the power supply could be a contributing factor. Mine is a 250; I know PNY recommends a 300. No overheating or crashes or anything, but could it be responsible for the crappy 2D/VGA performance?

I dont think it has anything to do with the settings. On the same monitor on the same computer here are my results

PNY Ti4200 64MB = Everything looks fine in 2d and 3d
BFG 6800 GT = Everything looks fine in 2d and 3d
PNY 6800 = Everything is blurry in both 2d and 3d

The monitor and computer settings are the same. The Ti4200 and the 6800GT have identical 2d and 3d quality. The 6800 regular is very blurry compared to my other 2 cards.

I'm running with a Samsung SyncMaster 900p 19" CRT that I've had for 4 years now, at 1280x1024 @85Hz. Both my previous Sapphire Radeon 9700 and my current PNY 6800NU look the same in 2D at that resolution; that is, they both look good with no sign of blurriness.. I have Cleartype turned off. Has everyone checked which refresh rate their card is running at when they are experiencing this problem? On a flat panel it shouldn't matter much since 60Hz is usually standard, but 60Hz on a CRT would look horrible.

250 is really pushing it on any system with a modern-day graphics card (read ATI's Radeon 9700 or better, or nVidia's GeForce 59xx or better). I can't say that it's hampering your 2D, but I wouldn't feel comfortable with it even if it wasn't.
I'm not saying you need to get a gimongous 500-watt PSU, but I'd personally want a brand-name 350-watt in any system with a current processor (Pentium 4 or Athlon XP or higher) and a modern-day graphics card. I tried keeping a 250 a year and a half ago when I upgraded a family member's system to an Athlon XP 1600+, since it was a brand-name unit and the system didn't have a ton of peripherals. After having an odd lockup once or twice a month and instability problems that at least once led to corrupting/reinstalling the OS, I put a new Antec 300watt in. There have been no problems since. That system doesn't have a high-end graphics card. Since yours does, I'd want more than 300 watts.

I purchased a BFG 6800 Ultra a last month and noted the same blurry 2D performance. After searching the web I have found that blurry 2D is an inherent problem with the latest Nvidia offerings, just Google blurry 2d BFG 6800 Ultra and you will get numerous other postings on it.

I contacted BFG and spent some time talking to a few of their technical people. I found that blurry 2D is an actual issue with Nvidia 6 series and the BFG line of cards, but seems to be a hit and miss depending on the actual manufacture of the Nvidia card.

It seems that while Nvida pushed the envelope with respect to 3D performance it began to let the 2D quality slide. Most argue that people who purchase these high end 3D cards do not do much 2D work so they don?t notice the issue or care, while those of us who primary use for their PC is for 2D purposes and gaming secondary notice the blurry 2D right off the bat.

The blurry 2D has nothing to do with any of your monitor settings, drivers, chipsets, processors, or other PC hardware, besides the Nvida card itself.

I returned my BFG 6800 Ultra and re-installed my GeForce4 Ti 4600. ATI cards, even the high end models, do not seem to have issues with 2D performance.
