I think these are the cards with a capacitor floating around in the box...

bastards! i was in line at 5:30 AM on Black Friday to get this same deal.

everything will unlock, but i get artifacts in 3dMark05 from having the pipes unlocked. just unlocking the vertex shader is fine and it will overclock. i haven't pushed the card very hard on an overclock yet, but so far it will do 365/775 when u let the driver pick the core/memory speeds. i'm sure it will go higher. temperatures actually go down when u overclock it.

hope that helps.

FWIW, I bought one of these at BF and had to return it. The 2D quality was horrible. I might have had a bad card, but others have complained about the same thing. I got the BB BFG 6800 deal instead and the 2D is perfect.

Again, could have been a bad unit YMMV.

And yes, these are the same cards with the "missing/floating" capacitor issue. Be sure to inspect yours carefully if you buy it.

I bought it on BF, but when I installed it, i got major artifact going and the freezing problem many peeps had with 6800nu's. I put it on another mobo and still same. I tried one more time, revamped my puter and it works fine now. I have also tried most of the fixes that everyone's done...notta.

BTW, my oc went down a bit... my 24/7 setup is 2.4ghz, but i get freezes and lockups with this card at that speed oddly. so now i'm 2.3ghz, but not much difference, still fast. sO I think ocing was my problem.

I unlocked pipes and shader and i got a xtra 500 pts on 3dmark03. oc sucs though, i didn't oc b 4 unmasking...will try some other time, some peeps have better oc when not unlocked. BUT this card kicks butt at the current time...even without oc. I CANT complain.

uh, one guy reports a floating capacitor in a box and now it's a major issue? maybe i'm missing something.

2D looks fine here now. i went from a 9700 Pro to this card and i didn't like the 2D either. turns out that setting my monitor and desktop back to default settings cured the problem.

Bandwidth, in general, is higher, however. More "lanes" for the both the core and memory to travel on (pipelines and memory bit-rate respectively).

I got a bad PNY 6800GT. You know what I did? I warranty RMA'd it to PNY and they sent me a brand new one that works perfectly. I don't know why you guys need to make everything so hard for yourselves.

Yes, if you think it was one guy you may have missed something. Many forums (AT included) had reports from all over the country of dislodged capacitors on PNY 6800's purchased on BF. I bought 2 with that problem. If you're considering this deal, it's a good card and this is a great price - just be sure that your new card has all the components where they belong. (Check the Hardforums for location of the potentially wayward part.) As they say, forewarned is forearmed. Good luck.

silly me.. forgot all about those pipe lines... are they locked? seems like many people are getting artifacts when unlocking them.

I bought 2 of these during BF and both work perfect! No missing caps, all pipes unlocked and both overclock really well. Also my 2D quality looks fine. You can't get a better card than this for $200.

What kind of OC's are you getting out of them?

I got the PNY 6800 at BF. The card is awesome for the price. I unlocked the card to 16/6, OC to 400/880 without any artifact and got 11.7K of 3d03 and 4.3k of 3d05.

There was a certain batch of ATI cards from CompUSA or Computer City years back, that had a similar issue, some sort of mfg or packaging "defect". Wouldn't surprise me to see it happen again.
