In my mind, I've done this:

OCZ, Geil, Corsair, Mushkin >/= Crucial, Kingston >> PNY, Kbyte

this is in terms of overall quality and reliability (not considering O/C potential).

Is this completely false? Have I just made this up in my mind?

I see all these deals for cheap PNY and such memory - but my hand is stayed by the thought that the overall quality is just not as good as those listed above.

Nevertheless, it seems like a good deal for "generic" ram..if I can call it that... :)

Please correct me if I'm blowing smoke...... :)

PNY used to use Samsung memory so they were very OCable but now they use BRAVO or some sort of VERY generic brand...

So you're right on the money. In my eyes...Corsair > Mushkin/Crucial > Kingston > Viking > etc.

I don't have much experience with Geil or OCZ but have heard bad things about OCZ in the past.

That system's very very flawed. For example the origional bh5 khx3200 was probably they second best clocker in it's day (after Mushkin). A LOT of much more vital specs determine overclockability before manufacturer comes into play. That said, PNY probably uses cheap chips that wont overclock well.

Thanks for the reply - how 'bout we eliminate O/C ability. Then what?

Actually, perhaps I should stop this - I just realized I'm sort of hijacking the thread....sorry 'bout that!

So, nm........ :)

At that point I'd go from...

OCZ, Geil, Corsair, Mushkin >/= Crucial, Kingston >> PNY, Kbyte

to...

Mushkin > OCZ > Corsair > Crucial > Geil > Kingston > PNY > Kbyte

Just my opinion on it though.

Now that the sarcasm is off, please go thread crap somewhere else. AT has enough wannabe "disgruntled mods"...

Thanks for the head up rasputinj, even if it is TD. :p

I just wanted to say that I also appreciate rasputinj's hot deal threads. And I just looked at his website and liked it enough to bookmark it.

Ever heard the term "if it is to good to be true, it usually is"....

Well you get what you pay for, PNY is ram, it SHOULD work, and it SHOULD have lifetime warranty. Will it work? Of course! For $20 I can put 512 in another machine that I probably don't need the CAS 2 settings in, this is a DEAL site and this is a DEAL if I ever saw one. Of course all the PNY ram I ever owned had samsung chips or Spectek. Dunno about the bravo, but if it works, so what. I could put 2gb in a machine for the price of one of my crucial ballistix.

So children, PLEASE stop bickering and thread crapping. Don't just give your opinion, go get some darn reviews or something.

OCZ ram #1... gimme a %(@*% break. It depends more on the chips than the manufacture. I bet if you asked your average tech he wouldn't even know what OCZ was, but I am sure he would have heard of corsair or crucial. OCZ could just be a fad, I don't think their name is respectable like the others... yet.

I have 3 PNY 512 MB PC2700 memory sticks (that uses BRAVO chips) in my Aopen KT400 based system and they work perfectly fine for me. I don't overclock so I don't know how well they overclock but if you don't overclock and just want RAM that works at their advertised default settings, then it seems good to me.

My PNY 512 mb PC3200 RAM works in my Abit board...

but not in my Asus Kv8 SE board (the system I actually bought the ram with as part of a package deal)

Guess we'll see how good PNY's RMA process is!

Xdanielx. OCZ is near the top for two reasons. First, they use quality PCB's. Second, they have very, very good support.
