Was installing a new stick of PNY 512 MB PC133 in an Asus A7V133 board with the latest bios but it won't boot. I noticed the front package said for "AMD Athlons or P4 1 Ghz or greater", I currently have a 800 duron.

I've never heard of memory needing a certain speed CPU.............anybody ?

I have never heard of ram needing a certain speed CPU. The motherboard determines what ram will work or not.

Could the warning be a bad English translation from Asia? Does PNY's website have any info on it?

It could be high density, but Athlon/Duron should not matter.

[*]Is it ECC memory?
[*]Try it in a different dimm slot

Says this on the stick:

512 MB SDR DIMM, H

64WHS stk 4740617

also the package says this: 512S133 DIMM PC133/100/66

The OS is Windows XP

It stops right away doesn't go into post, and then starts beeping over and over agian. I put the 256 stick back in and it posted no problems.

The Board is Asus A7V133 rev 1.05 bios 1009 , it can handle up to 1.5 GB of PC133.

I'll scan the package so you can see the where it says 1Ghz or greater.

No. It doesn't make any difference what the CPU speed is. The memory connects to the chipset anyway, not the CPU. PC133 should match a 133 chipsest.

It isn't too difficult to not get the module completely seated. Take it out, put in back in. Try a different slot. If there are other modules, try it by itself.

The ram listed at PNY's site for your motherboard is:

64MB PC133 Module 6480YHSEM N/A
64MB PC100 Module 6480YESEM N/A
128MB PC133 Module 6416VHSEM N/A
128MB PC100 Module 6416ZESEM N/A
256MB PC133 Module 6432WHSEM N/A
256MB PC100 Module 6432ZESEM N/A
512MB PC133 Module 6464WHSEM N/A
512MB PC100 Module 6464WESEM

I would try putting it in different banks, then to make sure that it is seated properly. If still no go, you might have a bad piece or maybe it isn't compatible with your motherboard (long shot on the last one, but possible).

Here is there configurator: Link

At this point I would contact PNY and see what they have to say. I couldn't find any more information about that particular memory.

Warranty coverage requires proof of purchase documentation evidencing the date of purchase (sales receipt or invoice). To obtain warranty service during the warranty period, contact your place of purchase or phone PNY at 1-800-769-7079.

Interesting... About a month ago I purshased PNY 256MB SODIMM for my laptop. For some reason the stick wouldn't work in HP laptop, which is PIII-800Mhz. At the same time the same stick worked fine in my IBM Thinkpad T23m which is PIII-1.13Ghz.

On the box it also said PC133 for P3/AMD of 1Ghz and higher...
