But gawd-dammit...it's GREEN up there.
Coming from the northwest and living in California, that's the first thing that strikes me when we go back...everything is GREEN...as compared to the usual dry, brown of the landscape here.
Plus, with the lack of extreme summer heat...even a bit of drizzle is better than $300/month+ electric bills. We're supposed to be in the low-to-mid 90's here all week. That means the AC will get kicked on for at least a few hours each day...and the electric bill will take a big jump.
Summer bills are definitely reasonable, but I find my winter heating bills are as bad or worse as when I lived in the Northeast. Even though it doesn't get as cold (rarely drops below freezing), the lack of sun really has an impact. Even if its cold outside, when there's a strong sun, it helps heat your house - well, that doesn't happen here.
Frankly, its just always cold here. Summers are too cold. Springs and falls are too cold. Winters aren't that extreme temp wise, but the constant wet / darkness makes it feel even colder. Blah.
