sorry im not too familiar with P4's but it looks like you'll be spending a GOOD DEAL OF MONEY.....

so why not:

Klipsch or the logitech Z680 instead of the megaworks? (if you go with megaworks i tihnk there is a rebate on newegg when you buy the audigy2 as well. dunno if it expired)

the RAM is ok even if it's rated at DDR466

consider an alminum case. i like the antec, it has very nice quality and a nice PSU but it's also heavy.

plextor writers are highly rated but lite-on will save you some dough for a nice HSF

hope i'm able to help a little bit...

p4 3.0 is a waste of $$$. You'll notice slight to no difference between it and the 2.6c.
320 gigs of storage :Q ? THats a lot! I can barely fill my 40 gigs with data, and i do video editing! Are you sure you need THAT much storage?
I am also no fan of Gigabyte. I would always prefer Abit, Asus and other few well-known producers to Gigabyte.
Other than that - cool setup!

another thing tho eyeofthe: what will you use this computer for?

if it is to get the satisfaction of building the fastest computer on your block, it's a pure waste of money. computer technology changes almost every day, especially for video card, CPU, mother board and such. it's sad to see my $80 mother board goes for $40 refurb on newegg and my $70 CPU now goes for $44, and in my case this is only a minimal loss.

imagine if you buy all that stuff for $2000 today, it'll probably be costing less than $1000 next year.

my opinion is: go with athlon/nforce2 combo. a 2500+ barton costs $100 and the top nforce mobo goes for $140. now i'll be too lazy to check how much does the P4 3.0 goes for, but my guess is next year around this time it'll cost less than $200

320gig of storage is pointless too. i have 120gig and i regret picking up another 120gig for $10 after some rebate mistakes that few people got back

spend more money on stuff that'll last: case, PSU, speakers etc. if i have $2000 to spend i'll probably spend 1/3 of it and the rest is going to buy me something in the future

of course, that is my opinion and im poor. good luck and have fun

I don't buy PC's often... so when I do I like to go all-out. I'm not that big on upgrading either.

I'm looking to be able to play Star Wars Galaxies (which I've been sweating for a long time) and Doom 3 when it comes out.

I also want to be able to rip my CDs to MP3s fast, but mostly it will be for gaming and web surfing.

I'd love to get into video editing, computer animation, etc but right now I'm a total noob with that stuff.

Go for the 256mb PRO, an extra 1 gig of ram, upgrade to 6.1 650 megaworks and buy a nice LCD.
And youve got yourself a nice little system.

the setup looks great
the CD-RW isnt the fastest one out thier but it is one of the best, it can read disks like no other dirve (very scrached ones) it can also cram 1gb of info into a cd and other cool stuph. the video card is very nice the 256 meg version is only slightly better not really worth the money but if you have it you might as well go for it since you dont really upgrade you computer. the keyboard is awsome, i have a cordless logitech keyboard and i absolutly love it. the antec power supply is one of the most stable and accureate (actualy will give you 430W not 400W). the speakers you have (550 THX 5.1) are awsome the 6.1 THX are not that much better, just one more speaker and if you dont have a good place to put six speakers and a sub they are a waste of money. the audigy 2 is also one of the best sound cards. and i would defenitly go with winXP PRO newegg has it cheep. overall very nice setup (i am invious) i have no $$$ to buy one.:D

i say a 9800pro 128mb should be enough, even for HL2 or some new games.

a good way to find out is read some hardware websites.

better yet, read some of the anandtech articles!
