My Friend has a Broadband Cable connection and wants to share it with another PC running W2K Pro. (For my own home network, I have two PC's sharing a DSL connection off of a Netgear RP614 Router, and I love it. Not a problem ever since I got it). Well what I thought I would do, is to just get another Netgear RP614 router for my friend to share his cable line, but for some bizarre reason, it seems like they jacked up the price of the router since I got mine for $30 so back in May.

So can anyone recommend a Good/Great Solid 4-Port 10/100 Network Cable/DSL Home router? Is it possible to find something like this for around $30-50, or have prices gone up recently. I'm not interested in wireless in any way. Thanks

I've got a d-link di-604 that's running great. If you set it up properly, it shouldn't give you any grief.

Yeah, I think I'll recommend that she buy the D-Link router. It's about $5 cheaper on NewEgg vs. the RP614, so it would be $33 after shipping AR. But I just have two questions about it, and please forgive me if they sound 'dumb:' 1. Does the router have NAT? 2. And (of course) I'm sure I can share files on all 4 ports between up to 4 PC's right? I'm just asking as it doesn't mention either capability on NewEgg, but I figured both of these should be standard on ALL routers.

Thanks guys.

My SMC 7004VBR router is great! I paid $10 after a $40 MIR! Just make sure you get the latest firmware.

I can also vouch for the DLink604. I used to use it before I went wireless, and was getting great performance from it, using all four ports.
Excellent router for a good price.

I got my d link 604 router for 15 bucks AR a few months back it was really nice since I have gone wireless using a 614+ also 15 bucks AR basically the same as the 604 but with a antenna works well too. Most routers are about the same today offer about the same basic features all should be good just look for onewith the hottest deal.

Of course you can share files, that's what a router does right, facilitate communications? 99.9% chance is has NAT, and is probably turned on by default.
