Besides Win2k and XP, all of the operating systems (DOS) you mentioned are crap. Get over it.

You didn't PIRATE it, now did you?

Please. The only installs of XP which you can't use SP1 with (or any update) is with that key which was leaked in 2001 with the "XP FINAL" iso. everyone and their mother with a pirated copy of XP has long since obtained the XP keygen and knows how to change their key on the fly. Having a pirated copy of XP hasn't been a detriment to installing updates since about 4 hours after the release of SP1.

thes34 update add many megs to my hd, from 1.3gb fresh install now to over 1.7gb. win98 100mb, 98se 200mb, me 700mb,2k 1gb. oh well, some enoy being owned by MS, others like me find it annoy8ng. first they make an unstable OS, now with better stability many crap is added, junks, vaporware. if you love MS, good for you but imho they suck. [end of rant]

Windows XP takes up too much space on his widdle hard drive.

Yeah, I've worked tech support. I can sometimes speak the language :p

I've worked in tech support too....a long time ago. I seem to have lost my skills.
Hey buddy(op), xp installs from one CD. The last linux distro I bought required, I think 3 CDs and something like 3 or 4 partitions just to get a GUI.
Yes, XP does have a bigger footprint than 98. Have you used 98 lately?

I don't see anything wrong with WinXP that can't be turned off or fixed.

Perfectly stable.

I agree with you though. PEBKAC

Debian and Slackware only require 1 disk. I am sure I could use only 1 disk to install RedHat, Mandrake, SuSE, etc. If Windows came with as many software packages as Linux distros, you would need more disks too. ;)

Different partitions can help out the system in a variety of ways. Disks filling up can be a big issue, but it can also be mitigated by intelligent partitioning. Of course, the only partition you *need* is /, but a swap partition is handy (since it is faster than a swapfile). I like having a number of partitions, so I can use security features built into the OS to varying degrees depending on the purpose of the partition (nosuid in /tmp!).

You start a thread in GENERAL HARDWARE about an OPERATING SYSTEM and we're trolls? Go back to DOS.

And I avoid OT.

The original post

, to piracy

why else wouldn't you get SP1 and fix it? even if you were on dial-up, you could do it overnight. MOVE some old stuff to the big drive, then do it?

,now to xp being really good?!@?

Because it is relative to the other operating systems you have installed?

didnt someone fit Win95 onto a floppy or something? Doubt it could do much in that state though ;)

anyway little idea what thread is supposed to be about but i'll point to this anyway: tweaktown how to SP1 (which nobody should be bothered about since it might just mean one less PC owned and spamming us with crap). Disable excess services you dont need, help can be had reading blackviper

If the problem is XP taking up too much space, boo hoo buy another hdd or use w98 or something.

disclaimer: if you break anything doing any of the above, dont cry to me i'll just ignore you and pretend it never happened :p
