Plz HLP!!! $5 PayPal if you can solve prob!!!! Computer won't see my Orinoco USB wireless adapter as a TCp/IP device

Hi, im tring to set op a ad-hoc network here and ive gotta Orinoce USB on the Desktop computer (win 98) and a 3Com Xjack 802.11 on the laptop(win me). The problem here is that i cannot share internet because the desktop computer wont see the orinoco as a tcp/ip device. I can do network neighborhood stuff but i cannot asign the orinoco a ip as i did with my 3com. I tried reinstalling tcp/ip, and about every other trick that i know. But here's the thing I tried to install the USB adapter on another computer (win98) and it recognized it perfectly. Im outta ideas guys can ya pleez help?

Make sure TCP/IP is bound to that adapter..

tcp/ip is bound to the adapter and i dont have a ap its just a ad-hoc network

I take it you are trying to use ICS to share the internet? If so I have some bad news, I used to have a USB DSL modem and I never got it to share using ICS, Winroute worked but not ICS. I got a Ethernet DSL modem about a year ago and it worked great with ICS

What does it see it as?

Sounds like you need new drivers installed or a firmware update.

But that has to be your problem. Until the Orinoco is functioning, nothing else matters.

Make sure you have chosen peer-to-peer in the config screen.
Disable encryption.
Make sure you are using the same workgroup name.

I can't remember what Windows version this was in, but it is important.

Under TCP/IP properties somewhere deselect the box for 'detect connection for network media'.

Also make sure the Orinoco is plugged into a main usb port. (On back of computer) Or a powered usb hub.
NOT an unpowered usb connection.

I looked at your rigs.
Are you trying to hook this up to the Dell machine?

If so, you are probably having problems with the usb because of the age of the motherboard.

I have had some problems with even simple things lilke mice on my old Dell 266 on an LX motherboard.

A pci usb adapter might help. The only reason I say this is because you've verified that the Orinoco works on another machine.

it is plugger into a main USB port, not my belkin hub, yes it is the dell machine but all my other usb stuff workd fine with it mouse, scanner, camera, handspring. ive done all this

and im using sygate but thats not the prob cause when in do a "winipcfg" it wont even show up in the pull down list

earlier you said you bound tcp/ip to the adapter. How did you do this if you say that the computer won't see it as a tcp/ip device.

well, i can add the tcp/ip protocal for the adapter and then bind it but still when i do a winipcfg it wont show up and i cant ping it either
