someone has asked me to be the skinner for his game in production, since this is my first time in doin so, i dont quite know exactly how the process works. i have a pretty good knowledge of photoshop 6, if that helps. thanx a lot!

is there an engine being coded? if not what engine is the game using - that would help to find more useful resources

Textures for games are usually powers of 2. For example, 64x64, 128x128, 256x256, 512x512, etc. Common sense dictates the higher resolution the better, but certain textures do not scale very well, so better ask the Developer what size(s) the texture needs to be in. Also remember that in a typical scene, many textures will be used so you need to pay attention to what works well together.

thats a good start! so if let's say the modeller asked me to do a skin for a character's arm, now all i do is create a 128x128 human skin texture then save it under what file type? and he then justs slaps the texture around the model? and that's it! until i move on to the body or head of course.

your textures probably also need to be tileable, so that if you stick one next to the other, they'll blend together without any separation mark.
