Plumbing question

Anyone know if a pea trap has to be directly below the drain? I have a new shower and the drain is offset about 12 inches over from where the old drain used to be.

I was thinking about dropping down from the drain and going horizontal to the old pea trap.

it will be fine. the only reason a P-trap is used is to create a barrier for sewer gas. As long as it is positioned so as to fill with water it will be fine.
