Foaming pipe snake has always worked great on our shower.

I usually do what some of the others have mentioned. When I first moved into my apartment, it took forever for water to drain from the shower. I filled it up with water, removed the plug and started plunging a bunch of times. A shit-ton of air bubbles came out and water started rushing out. Havent had a problem since.
