Plugged in but WONT CHARGE BATTERY!

I always get this error now all of a sudden with my Dell Vostro 1320 laptop. It's always plugged in but refuses to charge. I have tried using up the battery to 0% and it still doesn't work. I have also tried another AC adapter.

I have even called dell and they sent me a new battery but it's still the same. (hence the 30% charge in the screenshot)

However, VERY RARELY it will magically start charging if the battery is at 0% but if I disconnect and reconnect the power, it will refuse to continue charging.

Any help appreciated! Thanks

Sounds like you need to send it in to me. If a new battery didn't do it and it obviously must work fine on wall power so that eliminated the PSU, about all that's left I can think of is something screwed up in the battery/charger connection.

Your situation as described does suggest that the charging circuitry has failed. The question for you now is, is it economically repairable, or should you look for a like item on E-Bay as a replacement?

Is the laptop still under warranty?
If so pester Dell to fix it.
If not,,,, shop repair locations to get rates and then make a decision on what to do.

Way off the wall idea. Isn't there something in the bios or a software file or driver that controls the battery use?
When I open the device manager on my laptop at the top under battery is Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery
Does that have anything to do with battery charging?
As I said, this is a way off the wall thought.

My dell studio 14z will do that when i have disabled charging. the shotcut key that is on the "F3" key should be a battery icon. Hit that (along with FN if necessary) and see if there is a disable charging option on the control panel that opens. Also, check to see if there's a bios setting.

why would anyone even MAKE an option to disable charging the battery?

This has just happened to me too. Also, now when Windows is loading, the logo is gone and the screen is just black with the loading bar.

If you aren't using a genuine dell charger that can be a typical problem. Many will not charge the dell battery but allow it to run on AC power just fine.
