Hi!

Is there any way I can force Windows XP to believe this device is always present? The problem is that when I boot up with the modem turned off, when I try to connect Windows thinks the modem is not there... It's a USR Serial modem by the way.

Thx,
Zaskar

No, this problem has been present since Windows 2000 and affects all external modems. The only way you can avoid the problem is:

1) Turn on the modem before you start Windows; or

2) After getting into Windows, go to the Device Manager and click "Scan for hardware changes" to re-detect the modem

That's what I usually try to do, but sometimes I forget and it becomes a little bit anoying to be scanning for new hardware everytime... Well, thanks anyway!

turn the modem off, delete your modem, restart the computer, and install the modem manually.
now you don't need to turn on ur modem everytime you start windows.
