i wanna run the sata hdd, it will be the only hdd i use and the only sata device i use if that makes sense.

basically i cant seem to know which driver to use and how to set the dam thing upmy mobo book reads this

5.6 Creating a RAID Driver disk

A floppy disk with the Promise SATA 378 or FastTrak378 driver is required when installing win xp/2000. you can create a RAID driver disk using Makedisc.exe utility.

(i dont get this bit, am i making a raid driver? all i want is one floppy one sata hdd and one cd rom am told i dont nbeed raid controllers for that?)

to create a raid disk:

1) insert mobo supprt cd and locate the Makedisc.exe utility for ure raid controler

A. the Makedisc.exe utility for the FastTrak378 driver is located "Drivers\promise\378RAID\Makedisx.exe" on the support cd

B. The Makedisc.exe utility for the VIA RAID drive islocated at "Drivers\Via Raid\6420RAID\DriverDisk\Makedisc.exe" of the support cd-rom.

2. insert a clean floppy disc into the floppy drive and execute Makedisc.exe. follow on screen instructions to complete process.

3. write protect floppy disc.

TO INSTALL RAID DRIVER

1. during OS install the sysytem prompts u to hit F6 key to install third-party-scsi or RAIS drivers.
2. Press F6 then insert floppy drive disk with RAID drivers on it.
Follow onscreen instructions.

AS U CAN TELL BY NOW I AM A NOVICE. BASICALLY I DONT KNOW WHICH OF THE MAKEDISC.EXE TO CREATE SHUD I CREATE THE FASTTRAK378 OR SHOULD I CREATE A VIA RAID MAKEDISC.EXE

if somebody cud pls let meknow which exact driver to use and how to set the thing up i wud be gladfully gratefull

You read the manual, which is more than a lot of people think to do, so that's a good start :)

The Makedisk utility will put the drivers for both the Promise and VIA SATA controllers onto a floppy diskette. I suggest connecting your hard drive to one of the SATA ports that connect to the VIA controller, which are the upper ones.

Start your Windows setup from the CD, and press F6 like they said, and after a couple of minutes it'll be time to put that floppy diskette in. Windows Setup will then be able to work with the hard drive and you can partition & format it and proceed with Windows Setup.

After Setup is done, you might need to specify in the BIOS that you want the system to boot from the VIA SATA controller (as opposed to, say, the floppy drive or IDE controller). Holler if you run into trouble :)
