Plexwriter 8/4/32 Problems

I've recently purchased this drive and had no problems installing it. However, whenever I try to master a CD at it's MAX speed (8x), it always produces a coaster. Any other speed slower than 8x works perfectly. I tried all configurations including putting it as a slave/master/on it's own channel (whatever). FYI, I am running this burner on a AMD K6-2 500 on a Tyan S1598 motherboard. If anybody has any suggestions, I would appreciate any help on this.

you might wanna try getting a firmware update from plextor (www.plextor.com). They seem to put them out pretty fast and I'm sure there should be a least one for your drive (installing the newest firmware will do everything the old firmware updates did, you only have to run the latest one).

If you are burning a cd with a copy cd mode of sorts you are limited to the actual read speed of your cdrom. An 8x transfer can not be burned at 12x for instance.

i'm not doing cd-to-cd copy on this. i've gone as simple as, extracting the cd image and put it on the hard drive. burns fine on 4x, but not 8x.

update... i've put this drive on my other computer (intel processor) and burns at 8x fine. strange. is it possible it is the motherboard that is hindering my burning at faster speeds?

LOL... my system can't handle it? My system has a blazing AMD K6-2 500 while the other a Celeron 300A o/c to 500. 🙂 Oh well... thanks for all your all everybody. 😀

This is exactly the reason why I am still running Intel systems and I haven't yet pulled the trigger on an AMD system. Those pesky imcompatibilities that seem to rear their ugly heads. I'll sacrifice a little speed for compatibility any day of the week.

My K6-2 333 (with 66mhz bus...) runs the same burner fine (burned 75+ CD's). Maybe your hard drive can't keep up? Defrag your hard drive maybe and try

Blasphemy!!!!

its prolly a combo of problems, amd. mobo and your HD. if it burns fine at 6x on the same config, quite possibly the equipment cant feed it enough data.....are you by chance using the comp while you are burning the cd?
