plextor vs lite-on

I have a plextor right now and love burn proof. I am considering selling it to get a black drive(to match the rest of my system). I saw the lite-on 24x with a black faceplate for $85. I know I can sell my plextor for $75, so upgrading is no problem, but I dont want to be upgrading to a lesser drive. Already I burn cds at 3 mins, which is about the speed 24x drives get, so I dont even care about the faster speed. What I am worried about is loosing burn proof. I love it. Lite-on has some kind of protection, but I dont think it is the same as burn proof. Can anyone verify this for me please, I dont quite understand what the lite-on does. I know the plextor will pause burning until its buffer is full, in the event it does not get data for some time. What exactally does the lite-on do and should I do this?

The Liteon has burn-proof (or smart-burn, or some other name). I've got the 16x model and have never made a coaster with it. I've even burned with some old 6x rated discs I had lying around and they worked just fine (although I could hear the drive speeding up and slowing down the whole way through). They ended up burning in almost the same amount of time, well above their 6x rating. Liteon's are still no Plextor, but they are the best value for money option on CDRWs. And the 24x will burn Safedisc 2 protection since it supports full writing of subchannel data. (In case you were wondering)
 
i think you should keep your plextor since there are no real benefits to upgrade to a liteon other than the black faceplate.
dont get me wrong, liteons are really good burners because of its capabilities and its price but quality wise i think u wanna stick with a plextor.

Yea, imdmn04 has a really good point. Lite-On is a really good company and their drives do have Smart-Burn technology, which is the same as burn-proof. There's really not that much of a difference among the two drives but Plextors are much more "quality" drives, hence the high prices. As the saying goes, if it ain't broke, why fix it? Hope this helps.
