Just did the deal. Staples pricematched componentsdirect. Had him make it $150.00, including shipping, so I could use $30 off coupon. It's been ordered, got an order # and a Jan 4th delivery date. Don't want to disagree with anyone, but the correct number is IM1313489. Staples verified that this is the correct 24X retail drive and matches the number on the rebate coupon.
My price after $30.00 rebate will be $90.00 plus tax.

After a few more errors She verified I would get it on Jan 4th. After the $30 rebate this will be a smokin' deal. Plextors are the cadillac's of CD burning. I have a 12x Plextor that is now being replaced after I said it would be the last CDR until DVDr comes out.

Thanks cahwis for posting it. I know this is a smokin' deal and good CSR's who are willing to complete the PM are hard to get. As a thank you to the board and to make it worth the time reading my rantings (at least for someone), I took down the extension of the CSR. She is new and I don't want her to be overwhelmed. Also it will take a good while to complete the transaction with her. I will pass this info along to the first person that PM's me as long as they agree IN THEIR PM not to pass the info any further. If everyone would do this with their CSR, many could get in on the deal.

<< Back in September I got in on the 16x for $134 from Dell.

Plextor denied my $30 rebate because the purchase price went below $150 and although they did not state this on the rebate, they do state that they reserve the right to change or rescind the offer. I got a letter of denial and I followed it up by phone to no avail. Beware!

I was very dissappointed.

Why should they care? A drive sold is another sale for them. The price Plextor sold it at was negotiated between them and dell...NOT you and dell. I would scream like a Banshee about that one.

How about this?
What about rebates for those who get the drive delivered after 12/31 but ordered before? Has anyone had success/horror stories about that?

32x burner? Wow. I can't imagine that making much of a difference though. I couldn't wait on a dvd burner so I'll replaced my 12x with this deal, but I don't think I'll go any faster until a cheap dvd-r drive comes out.

stupid question, but what is the number that I call at Staples?

On first try, they told me that they cannot pricematch an item that is not carried
on the website....but I called the # for the website....800-3STAPLES. So I guess
that is the wrong number?

800-3staple (800-378-2753) is the correct number. As many have found out, you will get VERY different results frmo different CSR's.

I just called 800-Staples....and the CSR I talked to was awesome Got the PM no problemo...

then almost had a problem with the coupon. They wanted to add the coupon BEFORE the PM, rendering the coupon useless
.....but then I mentioned that the Price Match policyspecified how coupons are to be used with a PM. I mentioned that a friend of mine -D)
did this recently, and that the coupon was added after the PM...She mentioned how staples has a NEW PM POLICY effective
January 1st, and how they have been training them all to remember it.

I guess she got flustered, cause she just ok'ed the coupon on top of the PM....lucky that the 30 off 150 code I had was good through today

I forgot to mention, componentsdirect.com makes mention of the plextor rebate when you (or staples) calls...be sure to tell them it is a Manufacturer

i'll jus wait for the 32x tdk or plextor and "rip staples off" =P, the dvd-r, and dvd-rw drives wont drop very fast, maybe in some years or so...

I've read somewhere on this forum that the 32x drives are only averaging about 26x speeds overall. Sure thats faster than 24x, but if this is true then would there be any clear advantage to wait? From my experience with other CDR drives (creative, iomega, hp, yamaha), Plextor is the top dog. Nothing I have used in the past has been as nice and flawless as my plextor 12x. I can't make a coaster with any media I try short of not using the right method on a copy protected disc or cutting my computer off mid stream.

I tried 3 times today to pm with componentsdirect.com and use the coupon...but all 3 CSRs won't let me do it...they said their policy is one or the other...not both at the same time...what to do? but at first they gave me this crap that if i pmed it...and then use the coupon...they would have to add that $30 back on the total and take it off again...i don't get it...then what is the point of using the damn coupon...then i got that they can't verify if componentsdirect is selling the exact same drive...so they told me to wait till monday to verify...what kinda of bulls*@! is this??? anyway...i guess i am out of luck...unless someone can tell me how to do it...i spent over 1 hour trying to get in this deal...
