I have been told that the 8/20 plextor is the burner to get as it support all of clonecd's functions and can make copies of anything including some things that no other drives can. How does this compare to the new 12x and soon to be released 16x scsi burenrs from plextor. Which one is recommened and is it true that the 8/20 is the best or should i go for the 12x4x32 scsi or 12x10x32 scsi.

Thanks. :)

Plextor is in the process of disabling the ability for there drives to read/write subs. Personally the best drive IMO is the one I just bought the Yamaha 16x burner. It reads/writes subs and Yamaha isnt so quick to jump on the anti-piracy (anti-customer) bandwagon. The Yamaha supports all of CloneCD's features the most important being DAO-RAW. And its hella faster than that 8x drive but if price is a big concern then the Yamaha might not be for you as an 8x4x32 is about half the price of it.

The only possible complaint I could have about the Yamaha is that its a bit noisy when reading at 40x but it really doesnt seem as bad as some others have made it out to be. Perhaps I got one of the quieter ones? I do not know.

Anyway you can check out cdrinfo.com for some good reviews on cdr's

Good Luck

hanpan, I just got the 12/10/32 scsi burner, the ultra plex 40 reader and Adaptec2930 scsi card, now I am not sure about the Clone cd issue, but I just burned an MP3 compilation disc with nero, WHILE I scaned the mp3 dir. with my virus scanner, copied 100 megs of files from one hard drive to another, and had 12 browser windows open, and a lot of other stuff running in the background, I just upgraded from a 2 year old Smart and Friendly 8x scsi to the Plextor, all I can say is...Burn Proof RULES!
I am headed to cdmedia worldand research the Clone Cd issue.

Get the burn proof. It makes a world of difference. I dont have it, but a friend does. I still make coasters with my 4x/12x plextor and 40x ultraplex.

I have the 12/10/32 SCSI and I use Clone CD. All CD's come out perfect :). If you don't want to use CloneCD and have a Plextor 40X CD-ROM, you can use DiscDupe that comes in the CD Software package and use Bit-by-Bit burning. It's basically the same as Clone CD.
