Good deal on a great drive. Free Shipping Too.

Be aware that SATA ATAPI drives like this one won't work with many SATA controllers. They work best with some Intel and Silicon Image based controllers (usually RAID mode works best for SI). There is a poorly maintained list of compatible controllers/mobos on the Plextor site. Contact Plextor directly and/or check the Plextor forum on CDFreaks.com to determine compatibility. Luckily SI based add-on controllers are cheap if yours turns out not to be compatible. Also any controller that claims to be SATA II should support ATAPI drives. In any case, be ready for a bit more fooling around than if you went with the PATA version.

I seem to recall seeing the 12x SATA plextor on sale for around $79 after a rebate at Frys. This thread is about the 16x SATA plextor.

Well not everyone lives near a Fry's and that probably is the PATA version. Who knows there may even be an OEM version of the PATA drive by now.
. IAC, it's the best deal I've found online from a reputable reseller.

For any of you with an A8N-SLI, I was unable to get this drive to work on my A8N-SLI (recognized the drive but inserting a disc would lock up the system every time) Once I connected it to the SATA-RAID controller however, it works just fine. Still no idea why it would not work on the regular SATA ports. Anyhow, best burner I've had yet.

Didn't notice that. Great deal on one of the best optical drives ever made. I have the PATA version. I haven't had a coaster since I got Roxio dialed in.
