Plextor PX-708A firmware upgrade

Did anyone have problem after installing the firmware version 1.10? For me, it seems like I can't burn DVD at 8x anymore. I can still select 8X in Nero, but when I burn, its not 8X. It seems like something is wrong and the buffer underun bar keep going back and forth. So thats why the drive can't burn at full 8X. Before, the bar was steady.

When was this update released? I used to have that drive up until 3 or 4 months ago.. I had some problems with 8X discs not being read in my DVD player

can you confirm that your drive hasn't slipped into PIO mode?

I use a PX-708UF2, and it works fine - does everything I need it to. Just because a new firmware version is released does not mean it should be applied. I have no intention of even looking for it. If it ain't broke, - don't fix it.

Here are Plextor's wrods on firmware upgrades:

"If you are experiencing a drive problem after updating the drive firmware, for those drives with the self-diagnostic feature (PX-320A, PX-W4012A/U, PX-4824A/U, PX-W4012S, PX-W5224A, Premium, Premium-U, PX-230A, PX-708A/UF, PX-712A/UF and PX-716A/UF/SA), please perform the self-diagnostic prior to calling Tech Support. The self-diagnostic must be performed with a disc from your drive's recommended media list. Please check your Users Manual (or download the manual) for the correct procedure."

Run the Self-Diagnostic Procedure.

Actually firmware updates should be done on DVD burners as there are not only bug fixes but media compatibility tweaks in each update. Just give each new release a couple of weeks for any new bugs to be discovered and let the pioneers catch the arrows unless there is a problem you are having that you know for sure is addressed by the update. Then do the update right away.
. And check the Plextor section in the CDFreaks forum to see if any problems with the new release have shown up.
