Yes, but the Yamaha drive is ass :)

No burnproof, plus those drives dont even let you enable DMA...

I made the mistake of buying an 8x drive a little while ago...no more Yamaha for me...

I personally have a Yamaha drive and have been very happy with it, but Plextor is a *FAR* better drive than the Yamaha. Burnproof is worth more than twice the price difference alone.

Is there a big difference between the OEM version and Retail Version as far as the drive is concerned?

big diff? nope. you lose the box, nice packaging, and of course all the *neat cables* and software, sometimes you'll get lucky and get an OEM with some software and a cable! but the guts of it, the drive, is the same!

How about some "free" gas Mr. Big?

How about some more links to cyberville?

Yeah, you got some great deals as long as the blood is running but who cares?

How many marriages blew up because of your lies?

This is a nice drive, but I just got the Iomega 16x10x40 CDRW from buy.com and it rocks. It was $143 w/ shipping. There is a thread for that deal. I would buy the Iomega for the support if anything ever goes wrong. I have had a great experience with Iomega in the past. Check it out and good luck to all.

I have great news for everyone. I reported earlier that I got my Iomega 16x10x40 drive today, well it is a rebadged Plextor 16x10x40A. There is also a hack to jumper the left two jumpers on the back of the drive it will decrease CPU usage by as much as 36%. Please keep in mind that hacks are not supported by the manufacturer. The DAE is also a steady 30x upto 41x. Yes I really said 41x. But having just bought this drive for $143 shipped from buy.com really makes me happy. Good luck to all.

This is a good burner. I have the Plextor 12x10x32. Burns a CD in 5 minutes and the burnproof technology kicks ass.

yamaha really sux nowaday. no DOA, except their latest 16x. No burnproof (they have something for waste proof or something, but doesn't seem to work, my housemate got one).

Why doesn't yamaha just release a firmware and get all those sh1t fix.

IDE also sux, if possible, get scsi. I am missing my scsi set.

Plextor is the way to go now.

Unlike most other Plextors, this one does not read RAW+96, which makes it a 2nd rate plextor, lol.
