What's up with that? Plextor doesn't even list the non-xtreme version on their site and the part numbers on their site for the xtreme are the ones used on amazon for the non-xtreme.

Grrrrrr

AFAIK, the "Xtreme" is just the regular drive, with newer, performance-improved, firmware. I am unsure if it is also available to upgrade the regular drive to the "Xtreme".

Considering the quoted performance difference being as small as it is, the price on the Xtreme version certainly isn't worth the slight performance boost.

Sequoia that link of yours is the regular M5Pro not the Xtreme model.

Thanks, didn't notice the OP linked the Xtreme

I think you are correct - but I'm not positive, Anand had an article on being able to update the pro with the 'Xtreme' firmware .. http://www.anandtech.com/show/6505/plextor-releases-firmware-102-for-the-m5-pro-promises-100k-iops

But they also have an update announcing the Xtreme model.. http://www.anandtech.com/show/6574/plextor-introduces-m5-pro-xtreme-ssd

They look the same to me except the sticker, same controller, same 19nm Toshiba nand and it looks like the the same firmware.
