Hi !

I've just bought a 48/24/48A Plextor burner and I took me 5min 30sec to finish a cd ... That's quite long !!!

Does someone know how to solve this problem ?

Another question : does someone know how to activate the DMA ?

How can I reallocate more memory to the buffers ?

Thanks in advance

P.S.: I'm running under Windows 2000 and I'm using Nero (Plextor Version)
description of my computer : 1 GHZ (AMD Athlon), Geforce 2 and 640 MB RAM

I also have installed the aspi program ...

Are you using the latest version of your burning program? I think I remember reading in Maximum PC (yes, not very informative, but sometimes fun,) that an old version of either Nero or Easy CD Creator had a bug that lowered burn times for the Plextors.

1) Completely update your OS via Windows Update
2) Update your Plextor firmware to 1.04
3) Update Nero to the latest version

wash, rinse, repeat

Maybe that's the case ... but I've installed the version of Nero given by Plextor with my burner (3 weeks ago) ... maybe there are other reasons ...

What speed is your media certified @? You should not need ASPI layer for Nero ...update nero to version 5.5.10.15a

There is a newer version of Nero out.

Oh, just noticed your DMA question.

Control panel. System. Device Manager. Choose the IDE controller that your burner is on. That will tell you what mode it's in.
On my 12/10/32 Plextor, I had to manually set a jumper to enable IDE.

Do NOT, under any circumstances SLAVE your burner to your main HDD. Many OEM's do this out of lazyness.... Keep your burner as a master on your secondary channel. You are not burning CD to CD right?

I'm not burning cd to cd why ? I have put the slave mode ... You say that I have to put my burner on master mode on my secondary channel ... how do you do that ...

I don't know on which IDE controller my burner is ... how do you see that ?

On your motherboard, there will most likely be 1 'blue' colored IDE connection on your motherboard labeled as 'PRIMARY' ...connect your primary HDD to this.

On your motherboard, there will most likely be 1 'biege' colored IDE connection on your motherboard labeled as 'SECONDARY' ...connect your plextor to this AFTER you remove the jumper in the rear of the burner and jumper it in master position

slave it to your burner. (or throw it away....no one watches dvd's on there home computer anyway) Your burner is a vastly better reader than your dvd reader is
