Plextor 8/4/32 powers off while burning - Forcing a restart and making coasters

I've been burning CD's, both audio and data, perfectly fine using the included Adaptec Easy CD Creator 4 and DirectCD software that came with my Plextor. Lately, however, I have not been able to burn music CD's. I set a layout up in Creator, and go to create CD. It starts off fine, but then, after I come back from doing something else around the house, it is stopped about 3/4 of the way through burning the tracks. No error messages. I press the eject button. Nothing. No LED's lit up. If I try to access the drive Win98 freezes up, forcing me to reboot. What is the problem? I've already lost 3 or 4 CDRs(not that much, i know). Please, any help is appreciated

i think your CD writer is going bad. make sure to check if your plextor is still powered on when that happens. if it is then i would reapply your ASPI layer for win98.

Well, hrmm since you say the cdr powers off, you could possibly look into your PSU, it could possibly be failing.

My CD writer has been going great since I got it 2 months ago. I've only burned 15-20 CD's with it. I don't know what the problem is. What is this about ASPI? I've got an Antec PP303x PSU, I don't think it would be that. The thing is, it always happens around the same time: about 3/4 the way through burning. I've removed some other peripherals and programs from my PC, and I'm trying it again right now.

hmm, i would try it on another power supply. i had one go funky on me a little while back and it can make anything go crazy.

I don't think it's my PSU. I just burned another coaster, anyone have any ideas?

yazz: What's this about ASPI Layer?

The ASPI problem associated with burners is in Windows 2000. Have you tried turning off DMA?

Could be a IDE driver problem...do you have latest Bussmaster drivers?

It could also be the disconnect setting. It must be checked, even on an IDE drive. If not, then here's another vote for power supply.

I tried all your reccomendations, to no avail. I finally tried to burn a CD using Nero, and it worked fine! I haven't a clue why EZ CD Creator caused the CD writer to power off. A mystery, I suppose.
