For those who own the Plextor 708A DVD+-RW drive

Which dvd+r's have you sucessfully burned at 8x with this drive. (or around 8 - 9min range)

I just want to get as complete a list as possible so i know what disks to include in my price comparison shopping.

Unfortunately, even though I ordered my drive from Newegg.

I will be purchasing my media at local retail stores, so that will also limit my selection.
(i mostly see TDK , Memorex , Fuji Film , Imation and Philips on store shelves)

These things aren't cdr's , dvd+r's are too expensive to waste money buying the wrong ones! :D

I decided to take a chance on Memorex 4x DVD+R's since they are readily available at the local stores near me.

Memorex 4X DVD+R's work just fine also, Ive burnt a 25 pack of these with times varying from 7 1/2min to 8 1/2 min.
Not a single coaster yet. (i always "test burn" on a CDRW 1st since i'm still new at ripping DVD's)

VERY VERY pleased with my Plextor! :D

I have been using these Ricoh also if they are the same and they burn at 8x with no problems... :)

I'm thinking about stepping up to the Plextor soon. I use TDK 4x DVD+R's (I can get a 100 pack spindle for $97), and they're great. Haven't had one problem burning yet (on my Lite-On 411)

Did the Dvd's come with it for free or did you purchase them with the recorder? Where did find the best deal on the recorder?

I too just got a Plextor 708A for my X-mas gift. Backed up my first movie and everything went fine.

Just went to Best Buy and purchase the Memorex 50 DVD+R spindle. Heard that they are Ricoh disc. Haven't tried then yet. Maybe tomorrow.

Self,
nice link, helps alot.

Only media i have had any trouble with so far are Sony DVD-R. (only minus R's ive ever tried)

My Plextor won't even recognize them period!

EDIT: Latest firmware update allows my 708a to recognize/burn Sony DVD-R's just fine

Ive been using Memorex DVD+R , DVD/RW and Fuji Film DVD+R , DVD/RW with no issues at all.

And ive burnt ALOT of DVD's since ive had it.

I just set the record speed to max and the plextor self adjusts its speed "on the fly" to keep the buffer as full
as possible.

Not one single coaster yet.
Ive used Alcohol 120%, DVD Decryptor, Easy DVD Creator and Nero 6 Ultra, no issues with any of them.

I've been putting the Plextor through the mill and it is one sweet drive. :) Burnt about 100 DVD's so far and not one coaster... :)

to burn 4x media at 8x (let's say in nero), what do you choose as the write speed? 4x or 8x? if you choose 8x and the media is suspect (let's say it's a ricoh disc that has a defect or something), will nero/plextor reduce the speed, or will you get a coaster? ignore the fact that the media may be defective...

Anyone know if the Plextor 708 will get a firmware upgrade to allow it to burn 8x dvd-r media? The pioneer a07 has this capability and is now starting to become available.
Thanks.
