Searched the boards, all that was found was a similar deal that was posted in Feb.

You can find this at newegg.com Not really hot, not really cold.. Just a nice all around price for a decent burner. Just click on the product link for the rebate.

Sorry guys about thread-crapping since i didnt knew about Plextor that much....I am always on the budget side of drives and so Lite-Ons (which are damn cheap as compared to plextor) always did the job i wanted to do..
but it seems like Plextor is the cream of the crop and so extra $$$ for plextor is worth it....sorry once again, i apologize...

also, one guy said that i am not in the computer industry for that long ? As i told before, i am always on the budget side of drives, i knew when 4x CD-RW drives were ~$150+(i think they were realeased at ~$299 msrp or so) but i never bought them at that price or anywhere near that price since i couldnt justify myself paying that much for it.

thanks and once again i apologize...

Lately 48x CD-RW drives are available @ ~$20 after MIRs. I just got a 52x CD-RW drive for $29 after MIR...

thanks

If you get a Lite-On, then it's a good deal but other than that, this is decent.

Plextor drives completely kick butt, but they are expensive. These drives are $139 at Best Buy, so I would say this is a good deal if you are looking for a Plextor.....:p

it's a good deal for a plextor... about $20 more than what lite-on is going for but any other brand (other than the plextor and lite-on) I wouldn't go near with a ten foot pole :)

Plextor has been berry, berry good to me. So has NewEgg, but that's besides the point...

Not as cold as a freezer. Actually, it's quite warm. Personally, I'm considering upgrading to their latest SCSI drive, but only for the performance...

Otherwise, great price for a Plextor.

hmm....whats so good about Plextor ?

All my drives that i have bought so far are Lite-Ons (or rebadged lite-ons), so i have not had any experience with any other vendor and the highest i have ever paid for a CD-RW drive is $30....thats why i am wondering as to why $65 is a good deal ??

i want to know whats so special about plextor....can someone please explain ?

thanks

threadcrapper, why don't you go do some research and read reviews, why do you want to aggravate people with your stupid remarks and ignorant behavior? by your own admission, you aren't willing to pay for quality, and you don't appear to know what real quality is.

if the most that you've paid for a burner is $30, then obviously you haven't been in the computer world very long :)

in all seriousness though, there have been reviews that actually put the lite-on ahead of plextor because of lite-on's faster seek times.
back in the day plextor used to rule all cd-rw drives, and they are still the top name in the burner business. it's like buying a mercedes, you're not getting the cheapest car, but you know you're getting a damn good one, that has been proven to be reliable :)

Arhh..... there are 2 very huge groups of recording world, one is, of course, Lite-On's and another one is Plextor's. Lite-on becomes very popular becuz the very cheap prices (rebagged) and abilities to copy protection games (safedisk2 etc.). About Plextor, they are so reliable, very expensive, but it's only one of a few burners that can do audio CD protections (CD audio copy). Before price range of Plextors are always $100.00 up and still a lot of ppl want them. So at this price $65.00 shipped, I think it is really good deal for ppl who love Plextor and know its valuable. BTW some models of Lite-ons can produce working copy of CD audio now, but it need to be done with firmwear update. I hope I understand correctly, pls correct me if i'm wrong.

yup, back when lite-on 24x burners were about $65, getting a 24x plextor for $100 was a very good deal indeed.

brought my plextor ide 12x10x32 in july 2000.
I burn about 8-10 cdrs a day since then, in addition to regular use.
Its the only thing I have on my system since 3 upgrades.
It'll probably be there when I get a dvd burner. I can't imagine life without it.
This is very tempting, but my burner is still working fine. I hope plextor makes dvd burners soon.

Yep, can't say enough about my CRW-F1. Yamaha made great CD-RW drives. It's a shame the F1 is their last...

As a matter of fact, Plextor just came out with a 4X DVD+R/RW burner.

Personally, I think this is a very very good deal, I have 3 Plextor CD-RW's and I paid over $100 for each. Now, $65 shipped is really itching me to get my 4th one.

Oh yeah, I also have 5 Lite-On's and 1 TDK VeloCD, and I have to say, and my Plextor drives are way way better. If you only burn stuff directly from hard drive to CD, then Lite-On's and VeloCD's will do the job, BUT if you do any kind of ripping (Audio/Video) or trying to do a direct copy (Copy on the fly) from CD to CD...Uh-Oh...good luck.

Example:
My Plextors can rip a FULL 80 Minute (700BM) SVCD (Video & Aduio) in about 2:40
My VeloCD does it in about 4:20
My Lite-Ons does it in about 6:00

Don't get me wrong, I love my Lite-Ons but I just love my Plextor's more
;)

Its pretty funny. In my life Ive sent in 4 rebates, Ive actually recieved 2 and yet people act like they are money in the bank. Hopefully sooner or later the AG will go after all the companies and then rebates will be reliable. Mebbe.

I still like my external Plextor SCSI 8x20, but it is getting long in the tooth... still works well, though.

I have had no problems (not even a single one) w/ a Lite-on Drive on trying to do a direct copy from CD to CD so far...Most people encounter problems when your source CD-rom drive and your CD-RW drive are on the same IDE channel. Thats where you might run into problems w/ lite-ons.
But if you put them on 2 separate IDE channels, i dont think that you will ever get into any problems....

anyway, i read some reviews about Plextor though and they sure do make good drives...so once again , i apologize.
