OMG... cool.. i was looking for a new one.. i'll just attach this using the ide scsi converter... ill probably still burn at like 20 x and not try my luck..

I was hoping I wouldn't see this:
"Plextor uses again Zone-CLV as the main recording technology and at the maximum 40x speed, with the use of 80min CD, the total recording time drops down to 179sec!

The 40x recording speed is reached by 4 steps: The drive starts writing at 20x, rises up to 24x, rises up to 32x and last reaches 40x. The 40x writing speed is reached at 54mins, when using 80minCD"

Probably another zone drive that will only be about 10-20 seconds faster than a 24x rated non "zone-clv" drive.

Anyway, I'm glad that I kept my Kenwood 72X trueX drive for disc to disc copies!

The site also says itll burn a cd in 179sec total....so the average writing speed must be appraoching 30X....so its still quite a step from the ~22.5 speed from a 24x drive (the Yamaha is the only non Z-CLV 24x i know of....)

The burn time difference will be from 30-45 seconds compared to a 24x burner.

I'm all for faster burn speeds, only problem is is this speed up as you burn, i have a LiteOn 24x and it burns from start to finish 3:30 which in seconds is 210 seconds, or about 30 seconds slower than a 40x, even the 32x LiteOns don't show that much performance gain, so now I must ask, is an extra $110 worth it for 30 sec? Until media and harware can deal with STRAIGHT 24, 32, or 40x burning these super speeds are only used for fractional gains, and in the end are a simple marketing ploy, hmmmm kinda like Intel Just kidding and this is not intended as a flame, just a query into whether further research and thought is in order before wasting money, after all $110 could buy quite a few more nice toys for a box

Yes it does.. I was reading about which scsi to buy and found the yamaha 2210e or something is both scsi and ide and I download the manual and saw that it uses a converter so I did a few search...

79 bucks cheapest one...

so if plextor isn't making scsi anymore, i'll just get this...
