Plextor 24x burner - Initial Assessment - Disapointment

I just purchased the Plextor PX-2410TA and have to say I am somewhat disappointed with what I see.

First off, according to the review that I read at CDRLabs.com, this drive is supposed to be made in Japan. The drive that I received is made in China.

Secondly, in all the reviews of this drive that I have read, it is stated that there is supposed to be a fan in the back of this CDRW. The drive that I have received does not have one!

What the hell is going on here? Is Plextor rebadging drives here? I am going to be testing the performance of this thing and if I see that its performance doesn't match that of reviews, you can bet I will be returning this thing. The main reason I purchased this drive is because of reliability (my last Aopen drive croaked after 9 months of use). I'm beginning to doubt the arguement that Plextor/Yamaha/Teac are more reliable than other drives out there (ie. Lite-On).

Have you ever heard of revisions? The newer ones don't have fans.

As for where it's made... So?

My experiences with my fanless Plextor 24X have been nothing short of blissful, I love the drive.

As will you, most likely.

according to plextor, the fan wasn't really needed hence they left it out with later models.
still a first class drive nevertheless!

Yup... although my 16X Plextor had a fan on the back of the drive, my new 40X Plextor does not. You'll love the drive... why comment that you're disappointed in the drive before you even fire it up?
