Found a great deal on a plextor 24x at newegg when pricing out a computer for a friend. I've seen better prices on Sony's and what not but for a Plex this aint too bad.........

not bad, I'm not sure if the rebate expired yet...most of us got in on this either at staples.com or buy.com for less than 120 with rebate

Or just get the Plextor 40X/12X/40X $152.11 shipped (after 15% off coupon) at Dell Business. I put the coupon code on my site since I can't post it here.

I've never had problems with newegg. 🙂

In defense of newegg.com, I just returned an item, sent it out last Monday, and a brand new replacement is set to return to me this Monday or Tuesday. Pretty quick turnaround time if you ask me, especially considering I'm going from East Coast -> West Coast and back again!

BTW- I've owned 5 various Plextor drives (32X Reader, 40X Reader, 8x12 CD-R, 12/10/32 CD-RW, 16/10/40 CD-RW) and they've all been great. All 5 are still in use in different computers! I would never buy anything other than Plextor again.

Shoot,I gave $160 for my 24/10/40 plextor from newegg about 6-8 weeks ag😵h well,I`m happy with it🙂

How much faster than my current Plex 12x10x32 is the 40x12x40, really? My impression is that they just changed the way the numbers are calculated to a large extent - ie, you only get 40x write on a very small portion of the disc? To write a whole disc it's not 3x faster, right? Is it 2x, or 1.5x, or 1.1x???

Just wondering if I should buy!

thx!

No doubt a good deal. The Dell 40X deal for $12 more is a little better if you must have a Plex. The I/O Magic deal at Omax is a LOT better (less than half the price) if you would just as soon have a 24X Lite-On that comes with Nero (if you don't get a Lite-On, you can always return it). I won't dispute that the Plex is a "higher quality" drive (as far as construction), but if it burns, who cares? I mean, you will probably be upgrading it in under a year when writeable DVD drives get cheap anyway, so why shell out the extra $70 now for the same speed and same specs?

Nack

Does this drive do SD2?

If it doesn't then can someone provide me a link that has drives that do SD2

TIA
