I ordered the Yamaha when it was cheaper, 3 days ago to be exact. Said they would ship in 24 hours, but after 72 it still hadn't left so I canceled it. Maybe because they raised the price?
 
Hm, I'm wondering if I should plan on buying a Duron 800 instead of a Tbird 1Ghz and get this drive with the $200 I'll save! Help!
 
ctucker, good idea. just wait for the 1GHz to go down in price to a point where its price plus what you will spend for the CDRW is equal to that of the current the 1GHz TB.
 
THe only reason why I chose to buy a plaextor drive is its features such as their own version of norton ghost that can directly burn your hard drive image o your CD Burner in DOS mode. Kewl

Much better than createing and image and make a back up later.

Support is great from PLextor I never use it.

However, I think their software isn t that great. Except forr the audio rip prog.

But Its compatable with Nero and Clone CD

 
I ordered this drive a few days ago. I am also looking for a Dvd drive and saw the Ricoh 12x CD-RW DVD combo. Any thoughts as to which one is the better of the two? I've read good things about both drives.

Amazon has it in stock again. only one more day for free shipping. do buy it before they run out or no more free shipping. $190 for 12x 🙂 16x is not great imho since you can't find cheap 16x CDs.
 
What the heck is going on with their stock on this item?? In the last 24 hours it's gone from out of stock, to in stock, to out of stock, to in stock, to out of stock, and currently it's showing in stock!! I can't make any sense out of this.
 
The stock at amazon is pretty weird. I ordered the drive on 12/6 and I saw it fluctuate back and forth from in stock to on order several times. But it did ship on 12/8. Can't wait for my new burner!

Wow, thanks for the bump... I just canceled my order for the Iomega 12x4xwhatever drive to get this one. Had trouble applying the $50 off $200 again because I used it on the first order. Even though I had just canceled the order. Called, and turns out gift cert still showed in the new basket...

THE CSR guy checked his computer and stated that there were plenty in stock and it should go out in 24-72 hours.

what do you guys think is better... the hp 9500i is 235$ at amazon.. with the 50$ off coupon and the 50$ off rebate from hp, it comes to 135 shipped for a 12/8/32... 2x cdrw slower than plextor but the plextor is 54$ more... and has burnproof..... Ive had my hp 8/6/32 for awhile and havent had one coaster... so I dont know what to get..
 
I have heard a few complaints about the HP's at the higher end. No personal experience, but have heard more than one complaint from more than one person. I would spend the extra $50 for the often opined best drive, and the burn proof which you will not get with the HP. Burn proof becomes more important with the faster drives. Unless you have a super fast computer, super fast HD, and super fast (sustainable) reader to on the fly copy, you will coaster alot more without the burn proof.
