Not a hot deal, but a good one nonetheless. z-buy has it for $202 with free shipping. Call up staples and order this item IM1005680. Next request a PM with z-buy.com. Use the $40 off $200 coupon found elsewhere. The final should be less than $170. Enjoy.

z-buy's link. Follow the link below and click on CD-R/RW at the top. That'll give you the price that they have it for.

The TDK is a rebadged Plextor so there shouldnt really be any significant differences. Though I thought I read that the Plextor's were recently given a firmware update that makes it harder to use them to copy copy-protected stuff. Not sure.

princejoe,

The TDK is a rebadged Plextor, so they're the same hardware-wise. Software-wise, I believe the TDK comes with Nero and the Plextor comes with Adaptec EZCD.

Pretty good deal, bump!

I know this is kind of odd to ask, but an idiot I know in rl made 5 accts and rated me 1.0 as a joke... was wondering if anyone would mind boosting my rating a bit?? :). (wishes). hehe.

Anyone successfully order this? Friend tried to pricematch at the z-buy site and they said they couldnt verify that it was in stock so they wouldnt PM it. Tried a different site (avlogic.com) and they claimed it was a different manufacturer number. Anyone know the manufacturer number for the Plextor at staples.com?

The Tdk 12x10x32's are made by Sanyo ... As is the New TDK 16x10x40 ( the review link on Anands front page).. I haven t heard the firmware being a problem with the Plexwriters.. but in the review of the TDK16x10x40 it seems it needs new firmware to properly support Raw mode and that it doesn t read sub channel data ,which the plextors seem to do correctly.. This looks like a good deal for the Plextor :)

Everything I've read about the TDK says that it is made by Plextor, not Sanyo. The Burnproof technology comes from Sanyo, but not the drive. Comments?

Nebakanezzar-

Glad to see you were finally able to order.

Just FYI, I understand you are trying to help others, but I do not believe it is permissible to list coupon codes in this forum. I think your URL listing of the other deal site is okay (someone correct me if I am wrong), but I would edit out the coupon code in your post.

The TDK 12/10/32 is a rebadged Plextor.

The TDK 16/10/40 is a rebadged Sanyo.

Hey, this drive can be hacked to be a Iomega, Creative Labs, or TDK ;-)

I called twice and they said the drive was out of stock both times. The item number in the first post of this thread didn't work for me. They said they will restock in three to five business days. Their price for the drive was $302.00. Too bad they don't give you 110% of the difference. It is a good deal. I just hope it lasts.

p.s. thanks

Nebakanezzar-

The text under the link to the Hot Deals forum reads "Please DO NOT POST COUPON NUMBERS or PROMOTIONAL CODES."

I believe this started becuase at one point in time there was a run on Staples coupons, and Staples traced it back to the anandtech hot deals forum, and threatened all kinds of nasty stuff.

Every time I have seen someone post a code, it seems to cause an uproar, so I was just trying to save you from having to go through one.

Anyone, if I am incorrect about the above, please let me know.
