plexter cd-rw can't get it to boot!!!!

my brother inlaw bought the new plexter ,can't get it to install the manual says the same thing i told him to do ,and that is ,cd-rw as the master cd-rom as slave --ide secondary ,know this is how i have mind , also before saying this is the right way ,this is how he had his before harddrive on primary with cd-rw with no pins, and secondary cd-rom as slave ,and it worked !!!!! so any help he tried the way i said it should be but it doesn't !!!!!

All I can suggest is to check the cables again...check the jumpers again...check the power connectors again. If it were my setup I would put the HDD alone on the Primary as Master, and CDRW as Master on the Secondary with CDROM as Slave on Secondary. This is assuming a UDMA 33 HDD on Standard IDE from the board. If on a U66 controller I would only run the HDD on it and the CDRW and CDROm on the U33 IDE controller, all three as masters on thier own controller/channel(given that the board has that many controllers since you didnt specify what mobo you are using). Make sure the BIOS is setup properly for all the drives, all IDE active and set on auto, unless you are running a U66 controller and booting to SCSI. It is remotely possible that the drive is bad as well.

mastertech01 ,i looked at his drive and setup pins ,and couldn't understand how it was setup like i said prim. on hd, secondary cd-rom slave ,cd-rw with no possition set blank and it all worked ,it was a memorex cd-rw ,so he wanted to upgrade it ,so he got the plexter 32x10x12 whatever so he tried the same setup as before without the pin
and it wouldn't boot up ,any other answers!!!!!weired right

It may have worked via cable select possibly, and some drives are default set to master with no pins used.. I would just install the pins according to cable position and try that....couldnt hurt to try. My brother had a similar problem..turned out he had simply forgotten to plug in the power cable..LOL

What motherboard is it? And how old? Depending on the board, some won't even tell you it detected it, so you can set Secondary Slave or etc to NONE and should work. Just boot into Windows and see if Windows sees it.

I think you drink too much coffee grass!

Yank all that junk out, then reboot with only the HD as primary master...then add the CDRW as secondary master and boot up...then add the CD-ROM as slave...the point is do it one at a time, and the component that it screws up on is the one you've got set up wrong (or the master on that chain is setup wrong).

Ok i'll try one at a time with this ,this is a ASUS P2B mobo 350 pen 2 i'm going to be out their tomorrow and i will try some of your answers but like i said he did set the jumpers to what the manual said , URBANTECHIE ? when you say boot secondary to none are you saying remove all jumpers on cd-rom and cd-rw???? i'm going to try all answers- Thanks guys

Hi Mastertech found the problem after hours of startups and shutdowns but didn't expect what i found ,not from this guy and i told him so ,but i earned the old cd-rw ,so you guest!!!!!!) ,it was a bent pin couldn't believe it -Thanks for the help ,Steve
