PLEEEAAASSSE HELP!

Hi and Congratulations on these awesome forums! I desperately need help enabling my HT on my computer. My Bios shows that it is enabled, but under Device Manager it still only shows one processor. I need my computer to be running full speed for some encoding and Video editing I am doing. My specs are:

XP Pro w/ SP2
ASUS P4P800-E Deluxe
Intel Pentium 4 - 3.00 GHz SE w/ 1 gig cache HT
1 gig Ram (2 / 512)
GeForce FX 5500

Thanks for all your help. I have tried reinstalling my OS but I have the original XP CD with SP1 and does let me install SP1, it keeps telling that there already an updated Service Pack (SP2) on my computer.

I have heard that you can change the driver under computer in device manager from ACPI uniprocessor PC to ACPI multiprocessor PC. Don't let it search for a driver just use the choose your own option and select it from the list.

I have no idea whether this will work or not, so use it at your own discretion.

it's only supposed to show as one processor. HT does not make it become 2 cpu's. it only allows for a 10% or so increase in cpu bandwidth, allowing you to multi-task more, and is still no where near dual cpu's.

The easiest way to see is hit ctrl alt del. then click on the processes tab and right click on a process with your user name and click on Set Affinity. If you see 2 processors in the list then HT is enabled. You should able to set HT in you BIOS.

Did you install the chipset drivers from ASUS right after you installed XP Pro?

Try re-installing the chipset drivers. This is just an intuition -- off the top of my head.

I have a similar setup to yours, with HT enabled, and yes -- there are two processor icons under "Processors" in the Device Manager tree.

I DO recall that I went through the BIOS and set it up carefully before even installing XP w SP1a, and enabled HT before I even installed the OS. But based on the information you've given, I have no way of knowing what you did install or failed to install when you set up your system.
