I just bought an opteron 165 and I want to overclock it. I bought some crucial ballistix pc3200 ram (2x512Mb) and an evga 7800GT. Now, I only need a mobo and a good heatsink fan. I've decided to buy a LanParty but I'm not sure which.

The only requirement (other than being a top overclocker) is that it must have more than 4 sata channels. Several boards fit that bill and I'm not sure whether to get the DFI LANPARTY UT nF4 SLI-DR ($163 at newegg) or the DFI LANPARTY nF4 SLI-DR ($189 at newegg).

Oh, and I was also planning to get a Big Typhoon but someone said it's very hard to fit on DFI mobos and that I risked breaking the mobo while trying to screw it in. Can anyone confirm this and/or suggest an alternative?

I haver a 430W Antec TruPower which I'm hoping will be enough to power all of this (I have 2HDs and a DVD burner right now but plan on adding several more HDs later on)

So, does everything look good to you? Please let me know! Thanks

PS: If it's not too much to ask, if you're giving me advice that contradicts a previous poster, please explain why you think your choice is better. otherwise, I have a hell of a time deciding whose advice to follow ;) . Thanks!!

Why buy an SLI board? Your PSU is too weak for SLI. You'd notice a benefit from 2GB of ram soooner than SLI, but if you add more ram to what you already have it will take a performance hit unless you get rid of the 512 sticks and get 2x1GB.

Edit: Oh, by the way, great choice on the Opteron 165.

Edit2: The difference between the two boards is only accessories. You'll have to be the judge of weather you think you'll want/need/think they're worth $25.

I don't care about the SLI, is there a lanparty mobo with more than 4 sata channels that is cheaper than the UT nf4 SLI-DR ? I'll get it if that's the case.

Why would I take a performance hit if I add more ram to what I already have? I was just panning on adding a couple more ballistix sticks later on. Please explain.
