I was listening to a local radio show that comeson Saturday's in Memphis and the host mention that a Congressman tried introducing some legislation that would require the Senators/Congressman to do away with the special insurance they get if the health care bill is passed and Nancy Pelosi shot it down.

My god, they don't have some super secret "special" insurance. It is just like any other "gold plated" insurance policy.

There was also an amendment to prevent illegals from tapping into health-care but that was voted down along party lines. Illegals are also exempt from penalties (but bill says all people must get care regardless of "external" factors.

They don't rely on Social Security either.

Personally I think they should be forced into both government healthcare and social security.

Might make them do more to 'fix' them.

How is it a cheap political ploy of Congress is exempt? I'd love to hear somebody actually explain that. If they are saying we all have to be compelled by this law unless we work for Congress or the federal government, how does anybody here find it acceptable?

What special insurance? They have the same insurance as any other Federal Government employee. They pick a private plan based on their county of residency.

Members of congress were required to contribute to Social Security in 1983.

However I agree with PJ if Healthcare reform is passed they should be required to go on the same plan as the rest of us.

Seriously. And I'm for socialized medicine. One way OR ANOTHER they should be forced to use plans available to the public. Whether that be single player (someday I hope!), some public option (perhaps soon), or a private plan (right now). They shouldn't get their own special deal, period.

just like they exempt them selves from drug testing. they're going to keep their solid gold health coverage while the rest of us are stuck with "hurry up and die" rationed health service that gives you less coverage in mid and old age.
