Good day all.
I am upgrading my home network setup b/c recently my wifi router broke. Up until now I have been using DGND3700 and have no range/speed issues. The wired connections of DGND3700 still work fine, but it's wifi died. What I plan to do is to get another wifi router and have a network segregation setup in /25 space. The new wifi router will be connected to cable modem and the DGND3700 will provide wired only connections to the private subnet. On my wifi network I will have printers, wifi power outlets and other smart devices (no TVs yet, but may be later), but my NAS and other heavy data hitters will be on private wired subnet.

What I need your help with is selecting a wifi router for this setup. My wifi speed/range requirements do not justify getting a top of the line $400 router, however I want to make sure that what ever wifi router I get, it will support good wifi security practices, like disabling router PIN and not being easily rebooted by intruder flooding it with data trying to capture/factor the 4-way handshake.

Thanks ahead.

It sounds like you really know what you want.

I'm curious about a few things...

1) Why keep the DGND3700 and the new WiFi both? Why not just get a new all in one?

2) Why not just get another DGND3700?

I've got a TP Link I'm much happier with than the Motorola it replaced. The TP-LINK TD-W8980 N600 Wireless Dual Band Gigabit ADSL2+ Modem Router, 2.4GHz 300Mbps+5Ghz 300Mbps looks like about what you need but I can't speak for any of the specific features you asked about.

The reason for having 2 routers is to provide network segregation between wired and wireless network. As far as all clients connecyed to wireless network are concerned all wired connections to the 2nd router have the same ip (ip of 2nd router) hence wireless clients can not initiate a connection to private wired clients, unless that 2nd router is setup with port forwarding. As the result, if someone parks nsa van outside my house and hacks my wifi all they can see are printers and other boring devices, not my pc or nas. Meanwhile the 2nd (wired only) router will do nat hence allowing devices on wired network to see wireless clients.
