I voted nerd. I do game a bit, but that's not really why I overclock; it's only a benefit. I overclock because it's a hobby, like getting something extra for free. It gives a sense of accomplishment, like you know what you're doing with computers 😉 .

I think overclocking is why a lot of so-called hardcore PC users upgrade, because they can get top of the line performance (or close to it) for a fraction of the price. I certainly wouldn't be upgrading every year if I had to shell out $1000 for a CPU, etc.

Gaming, mostly. It's nice to get the most from your money too, but if I didn't game, I'd probably still be fine with my Athlon XP for the most part.

I treat it as a challenge. Pushing the boundaries of what I'm capable of.

One of the reasons that there is a Vapochill lightspeed sitting by my desk, although currently not in use.

Well I do it to maximize my gaming experience. I also like the idea of testing the system to its limits and compensating it with better cooling.

because I like getting something for nothing (or very little)...and it stretches my budget a bit. If I know I can get a value proc that OC's like a beast, I can take that extra money and invest it in a nice GPU, nicer case, etc.

You forgot the "because I'm cheap and don't like to buy $500 processors when a $100 processor will run the same speed" option.

Anyhow, I picked nerd 🙂
