Goats have kids.

Humans have children.

Please stop using "kids" to describe human young.

And dictionary.com refers to kid as "informal" usage when it comes to human beings.

To be precise, i'm not opposed to informal usage such as calling someone "kiddish" or "new kid on the block" etc, I just want people to be aware that when they start saying things like "my kids are #1 blah blah blah" or "i love kids" or octomom has a dozen kids they're referring to young goats and not humans. They should use "children" in such cases.

You're too late on this one. Welcome to the world of alternate meanings.

Just remember to focus on context. This can be confusing if the parents are also goat farmers, but usually if you try hard enough you'll be able to divine what their saying without having to resort to posting idiotic threads on AT.

Too late by over 400 years:

"Extended meaning of "child" first recorded as slang 1590s, established in informal usage by 1840s. "

Welcome to the 16th century, OP!

Dr. Pizza has the most amazing kids. I like to roast one up and eat it.

My old neighbor had a great setup. You'd go over there and pick which kid you liked best, and when you would come back later that day, the kid was sliced and wrapped, ready to take home and cook.

the context is not the problem, I understand what they're saying.

The problem is they sound like morons.

That's my issue, I don't want people to sound like morons.

Even if I have a single convert due to this thread I will rest easy.

NOTE: Using alternate terms such as "little motherfuckers" "the larva" "spawn" "naked mole rat" is not recommended, as there is the very real danger of the person using such terms in the presence of the opposite sex being unable to get laid.

Might want to go back and edit a lot of your posts in this thread then...

Fun fact: I was told that it was 'childish' to call someone 'childish.'

If that's the case, who the hell is allowed to use that word???

I know a young 20-something guy who is clearly not a fully-mature adult. I frequently call him a "kid." It seems a lot more appropriate than "child."

The only person who sounds like a moron is you. Plain and simple.

You think that using a perfectly acceptable informal term makes someone a "moron?"

The English language is too complex to restrict to your liking.

All of this is predicated on the theory that most children aren't the spawn of goats. I deny the validity of your thesis.

If I said "look at those kids" and you said "those don't look like goats to me", then I would be hard pressed to find anybody who didn't think YOU were the moron.
