Please stop using AT as a banner ad for other Forums

I want to preface this with "I don't normally do this". But it has been irritating me for a while, and I see no end in sight. My question is, if your forums are so great, why the hell do you keep coming here trying to drum up members? Spend some money on advertising, create some banner ads and put them on Google or Yahoo or something. Make sure you are seen in a search engine. But don't come here and insert ads into forums that I am paying yearly a yearly subscription to for the sole purpose of avoiding ads. Forum rules clearly prohibit advertising, so why do you feel you get that privelidge? I don't advertise my site.

Point being, if you want to contribute, I don't care. I have no problem with opinions. But quit interjecting your ads into my entertainment. If you try too hard, you will drive people away.....kicking and screaming "God please make him stop". I AM AT THAT POINT.

[edit:changed title]

I don't think he should advertise, but I don't think he is, look at the members that made those links, not one of them was rallispec himself, in one thread he did point out his forums through his sig (which is legal) at any rate, I think this thread may get locked, it really belongs in forum issues.

Wrong. Try again.

Mods, please move to forum issues if that is where this belongs.

I am not making accusations, but some of the members that are advertising for him have very few posts and are new. It doesn't take much to set up an account.

<< Come and join the fun oh it's so much fun. 😉

Ummm, yeah, that's one way to get new members

I don't see anything wrong with it. He's a good kid here at ATOT. He set-up a forum software and asked people to help test him out (something that's been done many a times in the past).

His forums are up and people seems to like it. Nothing wrong with that. Whenever we link to some news site for some information no one seems to complain that it is, in fact, free advertising for the linked site.

In a certain way, people also talk about Rallispec's forum and links back to him.

If it bothers you that much then ignore it.

Linkies?

If what you are implying is true, that's pretty bad. Otherwise, I see no problems with Rallispec. Their forums are pretty fun and has less regulations. It feels somewhat different.

Thanks for the support rootaxs. But I had no idea my forums were cuasing any problems in the first place.

why do i come here to 'dig' up members, becuase i like the people here. I think the AT crowd is great group of people and one of the main reasons i made the page was for sharing with other AT'ers.
My site is in the process of being listed on google and yahoo, however its only a week old and hasnt started showing up yet.

In the mean time, the link has been removed from my sig, and I will no longer "advertise" it on ATOT. But I cant gaurantee the same from other members who have been using and enjoying the new forums.

Sorry for the inconvience
~danny

I see anything wrong with your forums being in your sig, but I also don't like the plugs that other people give the forums. It's almost as if they are trying to "steal" members away from here.

Danny, having your site listed in your sig was not what I am complaining about. A lot of people do that. I am frustrated that every other thread popping up is about trying out your site. I know you cant control what others are posting, but it is frustrating nonetheless.

Well, for now the link will stay out of my sig. And i will post a thread on my site asking members to lay off the promoting of the site. I understand that it is annoying and I will do what i can to make it stop.

tsk. tsk. i don't normally say this either but i believe freedom of speech has just been violated.

(geekender: no offense to you, i understand what you're trying to say but this thread has bothered me)

There is no freedom of speech on AT.

Freedom of speech? Can you imagine if BUY COCA-COLA we were all advertising whores and inserted GOOGLE: SEARCH WHAT YOU WANT, WHEN YOU WANT advertising into the posts? I mean, I wish someone paid me HOME DEPOT: LOW PRICES ARE JUST THE BEGINNING for advertising, but I can't get them to do it.

I don't see what is the problem of him putting his forum link in his signature.

BTW, I don't like the way you advertised yourself for what great trader you are linking up your heatware, so I would be very happy if you could remove it.

Danny made a nice little forum where people can speak with a little more freedom, and not worry about getting "slapped on the wrist" by the Mods (just doing their jobs here keeping it clean 😉 )

It is also nice to be able to put your "pics" right there in your thread instead of chasing it down on a link.

Both forums have their merits.

There are folks on Ralli's forum who have never heard of ATOT ( I know, weird right?). We tell them about it. We frequently link to threads here in OT. It works all ways. I'm just proud that Ralli has set up a formidable forum all by his lonesome.

As for people putting links to the forum in their sig, I haven't seen any evidence of this, so I don't know what you're talking about.

With Ralli's forum I found it easier to know a lot of ATOT members... Hey how could I know all these people that I know now in only one week??? Here in ATOT it takes a little more time... And I hate being considered as a newbie here because of my postcount... I like when people read each others opinions... not only the higher postcount members threads...

But hey, it's just an opinion, I really like both forum and have to admit that all the software, hardware, highly technical and technical are kick ass forums here! I really enjoy readgind the post...
