Please stop the nested quotes.

At least 3 of the threads I have tried to read today have had major nested quote fights screwing up the page formatting and requiring sideways scrolling to read.

Like many, I set the options to view 100 posts/page, so having one page's formatting fuxored usually makes me just give up on a thread, even if I was somewhat interested. Scrolling side to side on every post is just too distracting to my reading.

I was under the impression that this was not allowed, even when it is not used to nef. Yet, some of the biggest offenders I see are Lifers, or people with early join dates (i.e. people who should know better).

Nobody should need the entire conversation posted every time a new response is added. If your short term memory is so bad that you can't remember what is going on, just scroll up and reread the thread.

I understand the desire to get in a fast response in a heated debate, but it only takes a few seconds to delete the redundant info.

Please, won't somebody think of the children?

Lol

I knew I was opening up an invitation for the nefs to come out and play. But still, I felt I had to get my message out. :p

Edit:

And if some idiots want to run headlong into the ban stick, then I guess this thread will serve its purpose. ;)

Won't happen.......... I think the mods even threatened bans about nested quotes.

I hate them :p

Amused's "Morbid Obesity" thread is so bad, I quit reading it halfway through. He and Special K seemed to have some sort of stupid nesting game going.

It gets bad when a [./Q] tag is omitted.

That was actually the one that made me fed up enough to post this.

Not threatened, a bunch were given vacations for it. Personally, unless the quote is useful, I trim it. I try to limit my quotes to 2 nested if at all possible. An fact, when .NET came out, for about 6 months I rebelled against the quoting system. I was hand coding the old style of quoting with the reater than signs and italics. Then I got tired of it, since .NET was staying so I stoped and just trim my quotes.

Anyone feel like posting the longest joke again? I'm sure the thread will go places after that.

Usually, I trim the nested quotes, especially in the friendly discussions. However, I admit I do intentionally stack them up sometimes when I'm in the midst of a ridiculous argument with some ranting troll. I do that just to show how stupid the whole thing is. Plus, if you don't keep a record, most of them will start changing the argument and/or start making up new arguments, as though it's some verbal discussion where people forget what was said just a few exchanges back, so you feel like you have to nest the quotes just to keep the whole thing straight. Even then though...

You can't fix it by telling people not to do it, won't happen. They are too ****** lazy.

You have to modify fusetalk to cut off additional {q}{/q}s if possible, but even if that is possible, jesus christ would come back from the dead before it happened. Considering this has been brought up many times, even in forum issues.
