Well, you can be kidnapped, shot, beat, raped, have a drunk turn you into a paraplegic in a MVA.

I can wish can't I? Point is it was no fault of his. You just don't drive into Mexico for no damn reason and he even called 911. He's homeless and carried his shit with him. What if we incarcerated Mexicans with guns that cross the border to the U.S, chain them to a bed and beat the shit out of them? Truth is we don't have stringent gun regulations like Mexico or Canada or 99% of the world has. You get caught here crossing the border with guns you are sent to jail and released on bail. Call a lawyer and ask. I'll bet you $50 via PayPal! LOL!

Wow I can't believe how hard you guys are on this guy. This is equivalent to forgetting to put your phone on vibrate before a movie. It happens. I don't think the guy deserves to be treated that badly for that. He should have gotten a fine and then sent on his way (back to America)

Mexico should perhaps be doing something about all the violence surrounding the drug cartels, instead of a guy accidentally crossing the border with stuff he should not.

No, it was all his fault.

If you know the story and have followed the news reporting like I have you would know that the signs were piss poor and there was no way to get over to go back to the U.S! He ended up in the wrong damn lane! Are you implying he was on a gun run or wanted to go get an escort in TJ? I don't think he wanted Mexican food either as Cali. has some good places to eat. 🙄

Until further evidence shows that he was going to Mexico for nefarious purposes I'm standing by my sentiments based on what I know. 1) He was driving at night. 2) The signs that were there were piss poor. 3) They now have a light up sign telling people to turn here to go back to the U.S. 4) He couldn't get in the left lane because of the barricades. 5) He's homeless and carried his belongings in his car. I don't know, perhaps this guy was wanting to move to Mexico or to simply sip on a margarita. When I hear, watch or read news story's I use two things; Logic and common sense. So far 90% of this thread's responses are lacking that. Anyone who says he should be beat just shows how inferior their common sense and logic truly are. Quit frankly I'm appalled at the sheer disregard for this man. And then you have a pin headed jack ass a page back that said he kicks soldiers asses at bars. That person deserves to get the fuck out of the U.S and save us all the headace of his prescience. It just goes to show you his lack in testicular fortitude. I highly doubt what he said was true. Soldiers are trained killers. When you join the military the simple fact is you are trained to be a murderer. This guy couldn't stand against a U.S marine. No fucking way.

Bill O'reilly said himself that he didn't jump on the band wagon until more facts came out, but he agrees he shouldn't be held there.

Mayne! That's the fuckers name. Newbie too non the less. He won't last. Looks like he's on a temp ban too. LMAO!

Yeah, his favorite past time was kicking soldiers asses in bars. 🙄

When I see a soldier I always shake their hand and thank them for their service. I am quite frankly surprised at the number of military here in town. I see them in their class C uniforms all the time yet the nearest base is near KDEN.

We get it, you like military men.
Calm down.

According to the mexican newspapers, the first thing he did in jail after calling his mom was try to escape. This after lying to them repeatedly. And what's with his lawyer telling him to "stick to the script" about his previous travels to mexico. It's like they knew nobody would believe his entry was accidental, so he said he had never been there before. Apparently he now admits to at least 6 previous visits.

He has painted himself as a martyr; however, there are plenty of common sense holes in his story.

1) While there are barricades to prevent lane crossing as one gets to the border area; why was he heading to Mexico in the first place? The last on-ramp on I5 is clearly marked as MEXICO.

2) He claims that he declared the weapons, but why would he have loaded weapons with him? Coming from CA, not smart/advisable and also illegal

It is very likely that he had/developed an attitude toward the Mexican authorities which aggravated the situation.

But such does not make a good sympathy story.

We have already had numerous members who live in the area state that the signs are not "piss poor." we have also seen images of such. I notice you didn't address his guns. I'm not implying anything, I don't pretend to know what his intentions were. However, I do know that he knew he had guns in his car, which he placed there, and he knew he was driving into Mexico. His situation is 100% his fault.

Awesome and progressive shouldn't be used in the same sentence. This state is fucking stupid and I would feel more at home in a state like Texas, Alaska or North Dakota. Colorado can't even pass Jessica's Law and is going the way of California and we all now how fiscally responsible California is. Yeah, prgresivism is awesome. 🙄 🙄 🙄

Exactly. I knew this about you after the first post I read of yours. And yet you will make the same retarded right wing argument that people should "move to a different country if you don't like America" and yet here you are and you can't even move to a state that you fit better in. You know how much harder it is to get citizenship to a new country as opposed to just upping and moving to Texas? I doubt it since you watch fox news all day.

Hundreds of Thousands of American's might love to move somewhere like Europe or just Canada if they have a choice. Things in life prevent things from happening that you might want to happen. Like most importantly the job market.

Bottom line is that you spit this same rhetoric that all idiot "god fearing" right wingers spout and yet here you are can't even practice what you preach even though moving states is infinitely easier then moving to a new country in absolutely every aspect.

He was already breaking the law, in the US state of CA, by driving around in his car with those guns.

I thought Gun nutters were all into the "only criminals break laws" and "responsible gun owners are fully aware of the laws" etc etc.

So, how do you interpret this guys actions based on his known criminal activities?

That post was simply divine.

As for the OP, I don't think the guy was an idiot. However, I damn sure would have Googled "Mexican gun laws" before being anywhere near the Mexico border with guns. If I was in jail from my own negligence, I wouldn't expect a huge uproar to fix a mistake I caused.

I know Fox News will do absolutely anything to get ratings or clicks. I'm sure they like being lampooned on other shows because they figure any exposure is good exposure. Therefore it is reasonable to believe this is being blown out of proportion to just to ring the ol' division bell.

My $.02

He didn't seem to have any problem the other 6 times he went to Mexico. You would think that a guy who has been across the border 6 times would know pretty well where it is.

Now wait a sec., you talk about "common sense", but "common sense" in my book would be to not carry guns illegally in my vehicle and as I already pointed out if I'm lacking the basic necessity of a roof over my head it's time to sell the gun collection, that alone would get him enough into a small apartment from where he could seek a job, since Obama took office gun prices have gone nowhere but up, once he establishes himself he can start a new collection someday. Yea, no one likes to part with treasured items but if I'm sleeping in hotel GM then it's time to re-evaluate my priorities.

Connor has apparently forgotten about this dude.

From a google search (random site, posted two days ago):

MEXICO CITY (AP) -- Mexico's Attorney General's Office is defending its decision to prosecute a U.S. Marine veteran who was jailed after he drove into Mexico in April with three guns in his truck.

The office said in a statement Friday that Andrew Tahmooressi was arrested on weapon charges because he was carrying a pistol, shotgun and rifle and ammunition when he crossed into Tijuana.

Prosecutors say not knowing Mexican law doesn't exempt Tahmooressi from responsibility.

They say the 25-year-old was placed in the clinic of a Tijuana prison after he acted aggressively, tried to escape twice and hurt himself physically. He's now being held at a prison in the city of Tecate.

The office says Tahmooressi's rights have been respected and his lawyers, relatives and a U.S. congressman have visited him multiple times.
