Please share tips on how to save battery on laptops

Hello peeps,

I currently have a Compaq V2000 Laptop ,
here are the specs for the heck of it :

CPU: Turion ML-30 1.6Ghz , 1MB cache
RAM: 512MB PC2700 (1 stick)
HD: 40GB 4200RPM
CD: DVD Reader
LCD: Brightview 14.1" Widescreen
OS: XP Professional

Anyways, it lasts around 2h:20m or so.
While thats kinda enough for my use, I wonder what tips are there to maximize the time...

Only tip I have that I believe should save battery is,
Use Power Strip, Underclock your vga core & memory if possible.
Unless you are rendering high graphics you shouldnt worry much.

Anyone has some other tips?

Now I use SpeedswitchXP for CPU, and AtiTool for GPU.
Laptop feels alot cooler, goodbye to that unnessecary heat.

Are you undervolting? That will make a difference.

Also, a very important thing that hasn't been mentioned is screen brightness. The screen draws a lot of power, so turning the brightness all the way down when running on batteries can result in a big improvement.

iirc, screens use more power than anything else.

Screen Display Brightness has the most noticible affect on battery time. :X not to mention, the speed stepping.

Undervolting, turn hard drive to quiet mode (not all drives support), turn down brightness, disable wireless when not in use, those are the things i look at first.

Also make sure no unnecessary things attached such as memory cards, turn drive indexing off in xp to minimize unneeded disk activity, get more ram to avoid hard drive thrashing, set your drive and monitor power down to reasonable levels (they help but can be annoying).
