I'm looking to build a new HTPC. For now, I will be looking at just streaming. I think I have everything except OS and Power Supply. I plan on running XBMC with it. I'm looking for recommendations on the Power Supply and if I need a CPU cooler other than the stock.

In the future, I am thinking of adding a Ceton and possibly a video card to do some light gaming.

I'm open to any other suggestions or add-ons that you may think suitable. I do not have a budget other than trying to keep it under $1000.

Upgrade that ram to 1866mhz and you should be good to go with light gaming. I have a very similar HTPC build except I went with the Asrock A85X motherboard. I would recommend a decent CPU cooler as the stock one is horriblePosted from Anandtech.com App for Android

To me the A10 processor and 16gb RAM seem like overkill unless you're certain you're going to be gaming. <$500 is adequate for a HTPC budget, if you're going to build a gaming rig build it for that purpose, it will be more than capable at HTPC duties, a HTPC typically makes compromises for cost, energy efficiency and noise reasons and won't be the best machine for gaming.

Cut the ram to 8 gigs and get the fastest ram you can with the original budget. Trinity needs fast memory not tons of it. Plus you should have a nice quick upgrade path as the next generation APU is gonna use the same socket.

This. Hell, as Raspberry Pi can accomplish the streaming (albeit with a sluggish interface), if that's really all you want. It's not worth $400 to have the possibility of gaming, unless you know you want it for that.

When you say XBMC, are you doing just XBMC or XBMC on top of windows 7?

@Shaydza Do you have a recommendation for the RAM? Or did you just mean like jr26 stated and go with the 1866?
That's why I decided with the FM2.

@crashtestdummy I'm leaning towards XBMC on top of Win7. I'm slightly afraid of the XBMCbuntu.

Why not go with the 5700 instead? It's the same price and has good performance at much lower power draw.

Ok, below is a link to an updated build with 1866 RAM and an A8-5500 APU. This keeps with the FM2 so upgrading when the next gen comes out will be possible. I changed the case and added a modular PS as well.

Any thoughts or things you might change are welcome!

AMD A10, A8 is good enough. You can get Corsair CX430 for ~$17 (promo price at NewEgg). You can opt for RAM @1600 so that will save you few more $$.
