But not based on anything VIA. I am so tired of dealing with VIA, with their 4-in-1 drivers, and compatibility issue with sound cards, and this and that. Is my only solution the SiS 645 chipset based boards? If so, between, MSI, Soyo, ASUS, and ECS, which company has the best SiS 645 board. Also, are there any P4+DDR boards based on chipsets other than VIA.

Intel is putting out the 845D chipset, which is just now starting to become available on the market... It is a DDR based chipset...

Well, the i845 DDR chipset will probably be the most stable combination, along with a good performer. That is the combo I plan on getting in the future. I have already bought 256M DDR in hopes I will sooon get one.

You have two choices then. The Intel i845-D or the SiS 645.

The first one will be better than the original i845, but will be slower than the SiS and VIA solutions. The SiS chipset also has support for DDR333 and will likely be cheaper. You asked for a recommendation so here it is:

SiS

I'll try to find out what manufacturers have plans for the chipset...

So far doing a search on pricewatch.com returned 4 boards:

MSI 645 Ultra333
ECS P4S5A
Asus P4S333
Soyo SY-P4S Dragon Ultra SIS 645

ECS comes in at the cheapest price, about $85, then the MSI board at about $100. ASUS is going for $135, and Soyo is going for $162?? What the heck warrants that price?

Anyways, only review I've found is the MSI one. Anyone know performance/stability results of these other boards?

Why not wait a little for northwood to come out?

I'm going to upgrade as well.. to P4 so just waiting for northwood to come out. Check out the price and some benchs before deciding on mobo.
