Maybe I should research it further. Thanks to both of you. I'll read up on the 1055T a little more.

John

From the sound of what you need the computer for, and cheaper quad is probably the way to go (as others have pointed out) such as the Athlon X4. Unless you are a hardcore-gamer and need the highest clocked-quad around, it makes sense to either get a ~$100 quad or a ~$200 X6. Getting an expensive quad for your needs is overkill when a X6 would be around the same price. That said, a X6 sounds like overkill to me.

Thanks again for everything.

I still have one more question if you can help me with it.

This is the power supply I will be using:

I read some reviews that indicated that the wattage demands jump pretty high when some of these AMD CPUs that are 125 watts (like the 1055t) are overclocked. Would I be better off looking for a 95 watt CPU or is that PS adequate for an overclocked 125 watt AMD Cpu? Or should I get a larger PS and stick with 125 watt CPUs? Someone in one of the User Reviews for one of the 125 watt CPUs (don't remember which one) said he burned up his 550 watt PS after he overclocked the CPU.

Thanks,

John

95W CPU is better actually.. but extremely low availability.. I could find a 95W 1055T for 190 on tiger direct. PSU recommendations depend on the rest of the system too.. can you list the full system specs?

Unless you are planning to add any video cards down the road, I see no problem with the PSU you selected. Also, you need to have a high end CPU heat sink to reach that kind of overclock... its pretty easy to OC that in 3.5GHz-3.8GHz range though.

I like long term stability so my oveclocks tend to be pretty conservative. 3.5 -3.8 GHz (If I get a 1055t ) would satisfy me.
The only extra CPU heat sink I have is an Arctic Cooling Freezer 7.

Also, I read the User Reviews on the Tiger Direct website for that 95 watt OEM 1055t CPU. This comment disturbed me:

Was searching for HDT55TWFK6DGR. When I finally found it, I find that the description does not match what I was expecting. HDT55TWFK6DGR should have been the 95W version but the description in the Product information is for the 95W version. Also the model number is different. I used the chat feature to talk to a representative and she confirmed that this is the 125W version not the 95W version I had hoped. My motherboard can accept up to 95W CPU which is why I needed the 95W version. I don't want to lower one star for what would have been a good CPU.

So if I ordered one from them I might end up with a 125 watt one anyway without a stock fan/heatsink for more money.

That sucks then.. you cannot go wrong with 125W 1055T though.
