Please recommend a software to Optimize my Cable Modem?

Hey all,

I'm looking for a program to optimize Windows' MTU, TTL and other networking settings specifically for a cable modem.. I've seen a lot of tools that do this, but only for a regular 56 K dialup modem.

If you've used something like this, can you throw in the name of the software? Thanks!!

It works for cable modems too. I'm on a cable modem and I use DrTCP. Versatile, robust and simple.

You can also go to www.regedit.com, they have some registry tweaks for cable modems.

I have spent hours trying all the tweaks for cable modem and most just slow it down or do nothing at all. but thats just my setup might help someone else.

I use Net Turbo Read here
It does make a difference.

The Internet is full of Proggies that claim to make your connection faster. The other day I saw a proggie claim to make your Dialup 400% faster, wow my 56K dialup is doing 7KB/sec. Download, I can make it into 28KB/sec Download. Wow, wow. Most of this proggies don?t even tell you what they do.

However what they do is changes to the Registry, and in the process they mess-up other things, especially Network setting.

You want to change? OK.

Download DrTCP from DSLreports, run it and record the setting show by the program. Then change one at the time and always change back to the original setting if the change did not improve any thing.

The following is an Example optimized for Cable Internet system.

Tcp Receive - 513920

Window Scaling - Yes

Time Stamping ? No

Selective Acks ? Yes

Path MTU Discovery - Yes.

Black Hole ? NO

Max Duplicate ? 3

TTL ? 64

MatMTU ? 1500.

I had doubted the claims of 600% increases before, I just tried the eval version and saw 0% change in speed tests, maybe if your system was screwy beforehand or something but I don't see how anyone is getting super increases with that program.
