please recommend a router

I don't feel any slow down for internet connection because I'm not an internet gamer. The slow down might be due to the firewall. Try to disable the firewall before you play game. I have the BEFSR81 before but I change to BEFSX41. Because the BEFSR81 don't have firewall and VPN.

seems like theres plenty people recommend the linksys but at the same time theres also a handful that have problems with it...decisions decisions...i'm hoping to make the purchase from newegg later tonight or tomorrow...do i need the built in firewall? i'm currently using zonealarm pro

with only a software firewall you're letting people inside your lan ('touching' your computers) that is the second line of defense but a hardware firewall is the first.

get your self some old ass computer 486 and make a linux box. there are some great options for this naimly Freesco, LRP, and closedBDS(what I use) comes to mind.

If you are not computer expert then hardware firewall is your first choice. Something happen and lockup the router/firewall then just simple way to reboot the router/firewall. But the software firewall will give you hard time to work with.
