Please recommend a mythology/lore game

I haven't played a PC game for a while because nothing seems to grab my interest anymore. In an effort to avoid going back to Diablo and Wow, I would like to see if there are any good mythology or lore games out there that are worth trying. I would like the game to be adventure or hack&slash but not strategy.

I played Titan Quest and really enjoyed the game play and the content and theme of ancient Greece.

I have always enjoyed the Elder Scrolls series, especially Daggerfall and Morrowind. I tried Fallout but the combat style wasn't very interesting to me. The Witcher was OK but it didn't capture my interest.

I really got into Wow and Diablo but I am burnt out on Diablo and WoW is like trying to use heroine without it taking over my life. Torchlight was OK but I am done with that.

Any recommendations? Thanks a lot!

on PC?
because God Of War comes to mind, but that's a PlayStation exclusive. emulators maybe? you would need a controller, though.

Thanks for the reply. Yes, I would like to play on PC, preferably with keyboard and mouse.

I just learned of Grim Dawn. That looks very interesting. Does anyone have any comments about it? I might pick it up today. Thanks!

Try the big Grim Dawn thread on the front page.

It's a little old now (2007) but Loki: Heroes of Mythology might fit the bill.

Torchlight 1 was a lot of fun, though not tied to any existing mythology.

I've read good things about the Van Helsing action RPG. It might be part of the Steam xmas sale that ends tonight.

Sacred 2. Combines technolog/science with magic. Hack'n'slash. I really enjoyed it. Still looks nice too! :)

MMO's tend to have a lot. Like thousands of quests and stories. Rift, WoW, EQ - but The Secret World seems like it might have a lot.

Some other games have a 'lore feel' to them, like The Talos Principle, which is a puzzle game but has a sort of lore' - as does the Myst series, more puzzle games of course.

I would highly recommend Grim Dawn OP.

There is a lot of lore to be read and the conversations are relatively well done. It is a convincing and interesting world they have created.

My only problem is that I have gotten so hooked on the game, I now rush through / skim read the text so that I can keep leveling. This game has hooked me hard like no other ARPG since Diablo 2.

ThanKS everyone for all the replies! I picked up Grim Dawn on Steam sale and am now doing some reading on the classes to begin playing sometime this week when I get a chance. This game seems like it will fit the bill nicely plus the thread has given me ideas for other games too. I appreciate it!

Titans Quest

Also agree with the Sacred 2 recommendation.

Grim Dawn looks awesome, but remember that it's not a finished game.....the balance pass/bug fixes/tweaks patch isn't scheduled until February.

If you're looking for a APRG, Path of Exile is great and is FREE.
There's a long thread on it here.

Loving Grim Dawn so far. Note that it is now considered "content complete" although there will likely be further bug fixes/balance patches/etc that may change gameplay noticeably. If you're enjoying, come post in the GD thread with any questions or comments.

I have also played Path of Exile back in the early beta days, had a lot of fun with it until my character hit a wall in the second difficulty (built wrong or poor gear or something). Note in Grim Dawn I haven't progressed into Elite yet so hopefully this problem won't repeat. :)
