I did some research on this, but everything I find is way too expensive. All I see is i3s and i5s with cards in neighborhood of Geforce 550-555M. This is overkill for me, so I tried looking at laptops with slower CPUs, but these are usually paired with very crappy video cards. And off course integrated graphics is out of the question. Is there anything out there that is "just enough" for what I need with nothing extra? I am looking to spend $400-600 and I really dont want to go any higher.

Screen size doesnt matter, but I need at least 4 gigs ram.

Sounds like you need an AMD A-series Llano machine, though this will require you to be more open-minded on integrated graphics. Just picked up a Toshiba for the kid from best buy for $450, it will run black ops with low graphics.

I agree, definitely an AMD A6 machine, nothing else will compete with it in the $500 price range.

What about Outlet Laptops?

They're refurbished by the manufacturer and has the same warranty as retail. The items I've seen are currently a bit over your price range - XPS 15 (i5-2410/GT 525M) for $619 is not shabby at all (but a little over your budget but give you free 2~3 day shipping).

But as others have already mentioned, if you're set within your budget an A6-equipped laptop is a solid deal too.

You can get the same specs brand new for a few bucks more, albeit coming from a different, and in my opinion, better brand.

But like you said, its out of his budget and you can't go wrong with a llano laptop.

Going a bit off-topic here, but I've had nothing but good luck with Dell laptops - of course I did go for the mid-highrange models (which the XPS is) so I'm sure that is a factor, but generally I'd say the reviews favor the XPS in build quality and speakers over the Toshiba.

Of course, I digress and I will be the first to admit I'm biased as my laptop is an XPS but I've had nothing but good things to say about my experience so far.
